Music, Arts, Film, Sports, & Politics It is important to study and understand the historical contributions by Black Americans who have helped to shape American culture. As with past historical figures, it is just as important to highlight recent Black American contributions and influence. The creative CCCHS Student Editorial Staff has selected a few to highlight whom they believe had a great impact on them as well as the world in their respective fields of accomplishments.

Jay Z by Carly Waffird Jay Z is one of the best rappers I have heard and he has impacted so many people in the world. He grew up in the projects; not many rappers were raised in the projects or have been through very tragic situations as Jay Z, Tupac, and B.I.G. As a result, Jay Z has helped people get through hard times with his music. When he dropped out of high school, his life was going downhill until he came out with his album “Reasonable Doubt” and the rest is history. LeBron James by D.J. Webb LeBron Raymone James, Sr is a big factor in my life, a hero, and has impacted me because of his loyalty and playmaking! In my opinion, he is the best basketball player in the NBA over any other player. LeBron is the best because of his stats and is captain of the team. The reason I say LeBron James is the best is because he was drafted straight out of high school, making him the youngest player to enter the NBA. No other player has achieved that! Michael Jackson by Lilly Turnbo I chose Michael Jackson because he is an inspiration for many people. He impacted the world with his dance moves, fashion choices, and music. Such music would include “I Want You”, “Thriller”, and many more. He died at the age of 50 in 2009. He is important because he is a music icon. He produced many famous songs along the way throughout his career. In the 1980s he sold 750 million albums! Jimmy Hendrix by Madison Smith Jimi Hendrix is one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived. He did not care about hitting the right notes. He cared about the emotion and the truth. He had sloppy performances and that is what made him stand out from the other performers. Ever since his death, people challenged his primacy but no one matches his genius. He has changed music throughout history even after his death Richard Pryor by Bailey Gower Richard Pryor had a very difficult childhood. At six years old his mother abandoned him. As Richard suffered, it shaped that negative energy into something positive. His humor (sometimes questionable) entertained millions during the 70’s and 80’s. Pryor was not just a comedian, he also performed in a variety of films such as the Wiz, TUTu Dancer, and Harlem Nights. He taught the world to let go and enjoy life with the best medicine available, laughter!

Jalen Hurts by Lake Jones J alen Hurts is the back up quarter back for Alabama College Football.

He played all last year as a starting quarterback and won all games except one and won the championship! He played two quarters in the championship but was banged up and not doing well, so Tua Togoviola played and finished the rest of the game.
