Service Spotlight Trigger Point Dry Needling Dry needling is a technique utilizing “dry” needles inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle. More specifically Trigger Point Dry Needling focuses on taut bands of skeletal muscles that are usually tender to the touch that may be causing pain to other parts of the body. Physical therapists use trigger point dry needling with the goal of releasing or inactivating triggerpoints to relieve pain or improve range of motion. Preliminary researchsupportsthatdryneedling improvespaincontrol, reducesmuscletension, and normalizes dysfunctions of the motor end plates, the sites at which nerve impulses are transmitted to muscles. This can help speed up the patient’s return to active rehabilitation.
