Morning Glory Women Dentists Network 2019

The Power of Us WELCOME TO THE MORNING GLORY WOMEN DENTISTS NETWORK OF NEW JERSEY

Dear Lady Doctor,

education on the professional level, feel safe to discuss issues that may be professional or personal in nature, and be able to provide support for one another. I believe it is important to diversify your experience and broaden your horizon in order to be a better practitioner and, more importantly, a better human being. The mission of Morning Glory Women Dentists Network of New Jersey is to provide education and social networking opportunities to practicing women dentists in the state of New Jersey, and it’s also to provide support unique to women practitioners on all levels. This network is named after a very common flower vine, morning glory. Growing up in Taipei, Taiwan, I remember walking to school and seeing these purple and pink flower vines draped over the brick walls down both sides of the sidewalk. We called them “trumpet flowers.”These flowers bloom well, survive with very little water, and spread like crazy. They may wither or close up briefly, but these blossoms revive again, stronger than ever. The morning glory perfectly symbolizes the resilient and strong women of this network holding hands together. No matter what temporary downtime we face, we get up again and restart — we triumph! In the next few months, I will be hosting a launch event for the network. I invite you to join me at this special event where you can meet with other women professionals in our field. I’d like us to get acquainted and have fun! For those who have been to my events in the past, you know they’re a blast! This network will focus on continuing education events and social networking for practicing women dentists in the state of New Jersey. Stay relaxed and open-minded. There will not be any hard sells. This is not a solicitation letter; this is a call to action for women professionals to join forces. If you want to keep in touch and receive periodic updates about the network, please email MorningGloryWomen@gmail.com. Please use this opportunity to introduce yourself if we haven’t met in person yet. I greatly look forward to getting to know all the women of the Morning Glory Women Dentists Network of New Jersey and building something great together.

I hope you are reading this at the best of times. I am excited to announce the launch of Morning Glory Women Dentists Network of New Jersey, a nonprofit organization. Please allow me to introduce myself: I am a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon practicing in Monroe Township of Middlesex County. I have been practicing for 15 years and have hosted several continuing education courses for local dentists and dental auxiliary personnel. This has given me the opportunity to cross paths with many wonderful women dentists, including associates or practice owners in my area. As a female practitioner and a mother of two, I have faced many challenges over the years in terms of work-life balance. There were times I felt alone and needed advice from someone in a similar position. A lack of resources or my own pride always stood in the way. I certainly think you can relate to these difficult moments. Over the past year, I began to envision gathering women dentists together and creating an organization that can offer the kind of support we all wished we had at one point in time. Morning Glory Women Dentists Network of New Jersey is a local forum where women can receive

Have a glorious day,

Easy Anywhere Exercises THAT ALLOW YOU TO WORK OUT ON THE GO

Planks A favorite of employees who take part in regular in-office exercise, a plank may not look like much, but it’s actually a great way to work on your core. A plank is basically a pushup, the only difference being that you place your forearms, rather than your hands, against the ground. Tighten your abs, making sure to engage as many muscle groups as possible, and hold your position for as long as you can. Walking Walking is the most versatile exercise there is, so it’s a shame many people ignore it. If you sit at work, take a few minutes every hour to get up and move around. Have an errand that’s not too far from home? Walk there! Studies have shown that walking can lower your body mass index (BMI), blood sugar, and cholesterol, as well as improve memory and cognitive function. Who wouldn’t want those benefits, especially when they’re so easy to attain?

Even if you’re a regular gym goer, there are always times when you won’t be able to make it to a workout. Whether you’re on vacation, at a work event, or just shuttling the kids from one place to another, it can be hard to make time for a trip to a dedicated fitness facility. While you may not be able to replicate your regular regimen on the go, that shouldn’t stop you from getting a little exercise. You can perform the following movements anywhere without special equipment, making them great for times when the gym is not an option.

Squats Squats aren’t only a great way to strengthen your thighs and back; they

also teach you proper lifting posture, which can help reduce the risk of back injuries. To perform a squat, simply maintain a straight back and attempt to touch your glutes to the back of your calves, and then slowly rise to a standing position. Try performing sets of 10–25 reps until you determine a number that works for you.

Our lives are busier than ever, but if we’re mindful, we can still squeeze in fitness anywhere. Don’t let your schedule be an excuse for ignoring your wellness.

SALMON & VEGGIES One-Pan

Who Runs the World? THE FIELD OF DENTISTRY EXPERIENCES BIG LEADERSHIP CHANGES This year, the American Dental Association (ADA) celebrates a milestone. There are 13 women serving as presidents of their state dental associations — the most in the ADA’s 160-year history. In 2009, there was only one woman serving as president of a state dental association. A decade later, the growing number of women in general leadership is starting to reflect the growing number of women in the field of dentistry. Forty years ago, only 7 percent of the students graduating from dental school were women. In 2017, women made up 49 percent of dental school graduates. More voices and perspectives in leadership benefit all members of an organization. As more women enter dentistry, it becomes even more important for women to find themselves in leadership roles. As Dr. Kristi M. Soileau, Louisiana Dental Association president-elect, says, “As more women graduate and enter the field, their particular needs, such as balancing a career and family, are often understood by other women who have been in similar positions of duress.”

Ingredients:

2 pounds small red or yellow potatoes, quartered 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided

This is something we can relate to at the Morning Glory Women Dentists Network of New Jersey. Our mission is to support women

professionals in the dental field and help them face the challenges that come with leadership.

Dentistry is also seeing some changes

in representation at the state level. At the end of March, the New Jersey Senate passed legislation that will add a dental assistant to the NJ State Board of Dentistry. This is a first, and advocates for the bill have claimed that dental assistants have had no representation on the board until now. However, the New Jersey Dental Association has gone on record to oppose the bill, stating that “dental assistants largely lack the knowledge and understanding of complex dental cases to materially improve public protection.”

Dr. Hung’s practice, Prospect Oral Surgery Center, celebrated its 10th anniversary. Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 9, at the Centrastate Medical Arts Building. Thank you for your continued support over the years! For more information about our services, visit prospectoralsurgery.com.

It’s clear that leadership in the field of dentistry is changing. What do you think of these changes?

Incredible All-Inclusive Resorts THAT CATER TO ADULTS AND CHILDREN ALIKE

Beaches Turks & Caicos Turks & Caicos Islands Beaches.com/Turks-Caicos

It’s not hard to see the appeal of an all-inclusive family vacation. It makes planning simple and ensures you never have to leave the resort during your stay. The quality of these vacations, though, is largely dependent on the resort you select. If you’re looking to book an all-inclusive trip for your entire family, consider these excellent options.

Even by Caribbean-resort standards, there is a lot to do at Beaches Turks & Caicos. White-sand beaches, scuba classes, nightlife for travelers of all ages, nanny services — basically anything you could ever imagine is available within the sprawling facility. The Pirates Island Water Park alone is bigger than some competing resorts. While by no means secluded, Beaches truly puts the “all” in all-inclusive.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana Punta Cana, Dominican Republic NickResortPuntaCana.com

Tyler Place Family Resort Highgate Springs, VT TylerPlace.com

Opened just a few years ago, this resort has obvious appeal if your kids are fans of the channel. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s also an excellent option for parents who want to enjoy some fun of their own. Nickelodeon Punta Cana has excellent dining options, as well as a number of bars, that are included in the price. There’s also a water park, a kids-only clubhouse, and a wealth of organized activities. However, it may not be the best choice for families with teenage children.

People normally associate resorts with the tropics, but you can find some excellent options right here in the Lower 48. Among the best is Tyler Place in Vermont, which will appeal to nature lovers and foodies in particular. Kids can swim at the lake, rock climb, ride bikes, and build campfires. Adults can take art classes, do yoga, and enjoy a glass of wine and some live jazz. Everyone can take advantage of the resort’s incredible dining options, which feature the freshest produce you’ll find anywhere.
