15 Years of Beats and Evolution

A Conversation with Pascal and Pearce!

PSP: Over the years, your sound and style may have evolved. Could you tell us about any shifts or changes in your musical approach from when you started to where you are now? P&P: In the beginning, we mostly focused on releasing more electro “club” songs that were bootlegs of famous songs we enjoyed. Through time and various labels, we branched into a more versatile approach which led to radio singles, full studio albums, and even syncs. Being versatile has given us a more balanced appreciation for music. PSP: Cape Town has a unique music scene. How has the city's culture and atmosphere influenced your music and DJing style? P&P: For sure! Cape Town has a more festival scene with its abundance of outdoor music festivals. In saying that though South Africa has a unique take on electronic music, and has definitely been a great place to be inspired by. We’ve been lucky enough to visit Ibiza a few times, which is like a pilgrimage for most ravers!

Proaudio Sound Press (PSP): Congratulations on reaching your 15- year milestone as DJs! How does it feel to have sustained a successful career in the South African music scene for so long? Pascal and Pearce (P&P): Thank you for the kind words. It feels a lot quicker than that, suppose time flies when you’re having fun! Longevity has been one of our cornerstones in the P&P journey, and as they say “slow and steady wins the race”. It’s mostly been about consistently creating music, whilst making sure we play to our best abilities when we get to perform at shows. PSP: "Disko Biskit" was a breakout hit for you back in 2011. Can you share how that track impacted your career and opened doors for you in the industry? P&P: Yeah, that was definitely a track that put us on the international radar. It gave us more reassurance to pursue a career in music, and opened many doors for us!
