TIPPERARY OR HEAVEN Mr. W ilmot of th e Open-Air Mission, addressed our weekly P rayer Meeting on his work among th e soldiers in and around Edinburgh. He told of a visit to th e Castle, where th e men of th e F ifth Royal Scots were not only will ing, b u t anxious, to h ear him ; pu tting no questions as a rule, b u t listening in deep silence. The sto ry of one con versation, instancing th e quickness of th e w orker to see and seize an oppor tu n ity for God is told best in his own w ords:—- “The bugle sounded for tea, and here was an opportunity no t to be missed. I was able to go from table to table, and converse w ith th e men. I dis covered one London man among the company, a Christian man, too, who was delighted to see me. F rom ano th er tab le came th e words, ‘There is a happy land, far, far aw ay !’ ‘W here is th a t? ’ I asked. ‘T ipp erary !’ came th e reply. ‘Then th a t m u st be th e Revised Ver sion,’ I pursued. ‘I like th e A uthor ized b etter.’ ‘Well, and w hat’s th e Authorized Version?’ one man asked. I replied in one word, ‘Heaven.’ ‘B u t th a t is a long way up th e re ,’ he said, pointing upward, ‘I w an t some th ing n ea rer.’ ‘And you may have it— a heavenly experience while on ea rth for have you never read : ‘Heaven comes down our souls to g ree t’ and ‘W here Jesus is ’tis Heaven there.*' •

“THY KINGDOM COME” F rom th e prayer book used in the Jewish synagogues a t th e service for New Y ear’s Day they say in pure Hebrew, “On account of our sins we have been exiled from our country and removed far from our own land so th a t we are not able to perform our duties in th e house of Thy choice, in th a t magnificent and holy house distin guished by Thy name, because of the power which has been stretched out again st Thy sanctuary. May it please thee, O E tern al! our God, and th e Gpd of our fathers! O most m erciful King, to re tu rn unto us w ith Thine abund an t mercy and to compassionate us and Thy sanctuary. Oh, rebuild it speedily and exalt its glory. O our F ath er! our King! m anifest spfeedily th e glory of Thy kingdom over us; shine fo rth , and exalt Thyself over us in th e sigh t of all th e living. Oh, g ath er our dis persed from among th e nations, and assemble our outcasts from the extrem ities of th e e a rth ; conduct us unto Zion, Thy city, w ith joyful song, and unto Jerusalem , Thy holy temple, w ith everlasting joy, and th e re in Thy pres ence will we prepare th e offerings enjoined us; th e daily offerings accord ing to th e ir order and th e additional sacrifices according to th e ir regu la tions.” We have th e la st chapters of Ezekiel all b u t summed up in th is petition, and though A n tich rist will first deceive them and many be destroyed, him self in cluded, our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will surely appear and th a t speedily, and we may well lift up our heads, for our redemption draw eth nigh.
