(13) And it cam e to pass, th a t a t even th e q u ails cam e up, an d covered the. cam p; an d in the m o rn in g th e dew lay round a b o u t th e host. (14) And w hen th e dew th a t lay w as gone up, behold, upon th e face of th e w ild ern ess th e re lay a sm all round th in g , as sm all a s th e h o a r fro st on th e ground. (17) And th e children of Isra e l did so, a n d g a th - I would suggest th a t every teacher read in connection w ith th e giving of th e manna, th e passage in John 6:29-51, where our Lord calls H imself “The tru e bread from LESSON Heaven.” Of course EXPOSITION th ere is a danger of J. H u n ter seeing types in the Old Testament, where none were intended, bu t in th is case we are on safe ground. The most help­ ful way to study th is lesson in our in term ed iate and ad u lt classes will be to note th e points of resemblance be­ tween th e manna and th e “ tru e b read .”

(34) As th e L ord com ­ m anded Moses so A aron laid it up before th e T estim ony to be kept. (35) And th e children of Isra e l did eat m anna fo rty years, u n til th ey cam e to a land in h ab ited ; th e y did e a t m anna, u n til th e y cam e un to th e borders of th e lan d of C anaan. - I. The children of Israel had ju st come out of Egyptian slavery, and were a t th is tim e in th e w ilderness. J u st before th e giving of th e m anna they had been complaining of lack of w ater, and God had sweetened fo r them th e b itter w aters of Marah, and afterw ard s led them to Elim , where “were twelve wells of w ater and th ree score and ten palm trees.” Leaving E lim they had journeyed into th e w ilderness of Sin, and h ere they began to charge Moses and Aaron w ith having b rough t them In th e G reatness and Urgency of th e Need.
