MONDAY, F eb ru ary 10. Ex. 20:1-11. Our Duty to God. Duty is th a t which is due. W h at is due from man to God? W hat can the creature give the Creator? Since God is infinite and man is finite it is obvious th a t m an’s duty to God can never be fully discharged. A finite being can no t perform infinite duty. God is w orthy of being loved infinitely. When we have done a ll th a t we can possibly do, we are still unprofitable servants. Worship is worth-ship. We worship God when we ascribe worth to him. Man attain s his own high est well-being in glorifying God. The Divine claim has precedence over all others. “God first” is a good motto for daily life. TUESDAY, F eb ru ary 11. Ex. 20:12-24. Our Duty to Man. The Decalogue is characterized by brevity, simplicity, comprehensiveness and symm etrical arrangem ent. The two tables of duty to God and duty to i man, are linked by th e fifth command ment, since th e image of parenthood is th e n earest e a rth ly image of our rela tionship to our Heavenly F ath e r. The first table begins w ith honoring God in th e h e a rt and goes •th rough words to deeds. The second tab le begins w ith conduct, forbidding th e in ju ry of our neighbor in person, fam ily and prop erty and th en goes th rough words to th e though ts of th e 1 h e a rt again. WEDNESDAY, F eb ru ary 12. Ex. 34; 1-8 Tables of Stone. . The b reaking of th e first tables of stone was a solemn token th a t th e cov en an t was broken and all its blessings forfeited. God p atien tly and merpir fully engraved them th e second time. The new ones were no t en tru sted to th e safe keeping of man, b u t God com manded them to be placed in the A rk where they would be kep t inviolate. God committed His holy law to the keep ing of th e first man in P aradise and alas! it was imm ediately and irre p a r ably broken. God then entrusted His law to th e keeping of th e Second Man where it will be safe forevermore. THURSDAY, F eb ru ary 13. P sa. 119:33- 40. ,, Teach Me Thy Way. The one hundred and n ineteenth Psalm is one of th e so-called psalms of th e law. I t is a glorious trib u te to th e adap tab ility of th e law of God to every experience of th e believer. It is
sumed half an hou r and the k ing ’s busi ness requires haste, v. 4. FRIDAY, F eb ru ary 7. Acts 6:1-8. The Seven Deacons. This passage sets fo rth th e in stitu tion of the diaconate, th e incumbents of which adm inister th e so-called tem poralities of th e Christian church. Al though these may not ran k so high in public esteem as the spiritualities, nev ertheless they call for g reat grace and sp iritu al m indedness in th e ir adm in istration . The hum blest duty in con nection w ith th e house of God should be highly esteemed and Divine assist ance invoked for its proper discharge. God should be allowed to have his way in all these m atters. W orldly policies and methods should . have no place in th e affairs of th e sanctuary. SATURDAY, F eb ru ary 8 . 1 Cor. 12:1- 11 . D iversity of Gifts. Grace is for life. Gifts are for ser vice. Grace is th e same for all. No two have th é same gifts. One can not live upon his gifts any more th a n a farm er can live upon his tools. We should covet earnestly th e best gifts, claim them by faith, cultivate them assiduously and tru s t God for an oppor tu n ity to exercise them . It may be assumed th a t th e gifts of th e Spirit are la ten t in th e church and th a t th e Holy Spirit will bring them ou t into active exercise to meet a recognized need and in response to a vigorous and victorious faith on th e p art of the members of the church. SUNDAY, F eb ru ary 9. 1 Cor. 3:4-15. ‘L aborers Together W ith God. It is a glorious privilege to work for God a t the hum blest ta sk and under God in any capacity. W h at an exalted honor it is to work w ith God as a p art ner and a friend! God’s in terest in his work far surpasses ours. The responsibility is His, the resources are His, the glory shall be His also. In o rder to have in telligen t and efficient co-operation, an understanding of the Divine plan and purpose is absolutely necessary. O therwise we shall work against Him rath er than w ith Him and our work will be burned as wood, hay and stubble in th e testing fire. His purposes are revealed in His Word. D iligent and p rayerfu l study of th e Scriptures will qualify us to be His co workers.
