Pythium Root Rot Organisms causing Pythium root rot on cool-season greens become active earlier than previously thought, when average 2” soil temperatures reach 60ºF for three consecutive days. However, in the Pacific Northwest where winter soils are often saturated and unfrozen, Pythium root rot often becomes problematic in January/February following extened cold/saturated soil conditions when turf growth potential is lowest. These applications should be watered-in with 0.125” of irrigation.
