Pythium Root Dysfunction Pythium root dysfunction is active slightly earlier in spring than Pythium root rot, when 2” soil temperatures reach 55ºF for three consecutive days. Applications for Pythium root dysfunction should be initiated in spring when average soil temperature at a 2” depth taken at 11:00 am is 55°F for three consecutive days. In areas with chronic Pythium root dysfunction consider an application in fall when the average soil temperatures consistently drop below 65°F. These applications should be watered-in with 0.125” of irrigation. Nematodes Nematodes are a growing but often undetected pest problem in turfgrass throughout the United States, especially on low-mowed greens or other areas under stress. Nematodes often enhance root diseases confounding diagnosis and control. Nematodes are also expanding in the PNW, and are complex including stem and crown nematodes ( Anguina ) as well as root-infecting nematodes like root knot. Root-infecting nematodes in the PNW can become problematic in January-March as well as late summer, both periods of lowest growth potential in greens. Nematode assays can help determine the type of nematode present and whether they are a concern. If current symptoms are validated with high nematode populations, curative applications of Indemnify should be made immediately. Consult your local area sales manager for specific timing and re-application interval. Re-applications will depend on the level of nematode populations/ damage. For courses where nematodes are not a major concern but wanting to be proactive with nematode management, apply Resilia ® root health solution at 4 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. A total of four applications can be made per year. For resistance management, consider including other MOAs for nematode control. For courses with a documented history of nematode damage, consider the following:

Label allows (4) "spot treatments of Indemnify at 0.39 oz/1000 sq ft per 10,000 sq feet of golf course area.” Resilia applications must preceed Indemnify applications to stay within yearly maximums for fluopyram.

PRO TIP : If root-knot nematodes are suspected, request mist extraction, whereas sting nematodes are more accurately determined using traditional soil extraction techniques.
