The Casselman Vikings took a 2-0 lead this weekend in the St-Lawrence division semi-finals against theWinchester Hawks. Raymond Lavergne’s troop started strong with a triumphant 16-2 win in the series opener, Friday. The game was punctuated by many penalties that played in Cassel- man’s favour. Vikings scored 13 goals in 14 power plays. The Hawks took advantage of one of six opportunities to score on the power play. Casselman scored the first goal at 5:40 in the first period. Winchester was able to tie it 1-1. The Hawks didn’t seem to show up for the rest of the game. The Vikings scored three unanswered goals in the second period. The score was 4-1. Things really became messy in the last period as the Hawks spent most of it in the penalty box. Casselman got 11 goals in on the power play, mostly on the 5 on 3, be- fore giving one up toWinchester with three minutes left in the game. The Vikings scored a 16th goal with 40 seconds left. Jody Sul- livan and Taylor Widenmaier both got a hat trick. Devin Desnoyers, Damien Charette, Miguel Laurin put in two goals each for Cas- selman. Sylvain Quesnel, Curtis Chennette, Kyle Beauchamp-Lalonde and Joel Adam each scored one goal. Chennette also got
four passes giving him a five-point night. Alexandre Michaud stopped 29 out of 31 shots fromWinchester. The Vikings came back Sunday with a 3-2 win in double overtime. Casselman got the most for lack of discipline this time giving seven power plays to Winchester. The spe- cial units were able to limit the damage to one goal. The Vikings got one goal in the four on five. The score was 2-2 after three periods. The Vikings had already taken 43 shots at the Winchester goalie.
