Scotiabank closures do not affect Russell

Russell is not part of the consolidation plans the bank recently announced. Branches in Maxville, St-Isidore and Avon- more are being withdrawn as the bank builds a new location in Casselman. “Like every business, we constantly re- view our branch network to make sure that we are providing customers with the best possible service in the most efficient way,”

says spokesperson Andrew Chornenky. “We evaluate our network with input from the local level on an ongoing basis to ensure our branches remain competitive and viable. In some cases, as a result of this review, we adjust the network to both im- prove our efficiency and be able to provide customers with updated and improved fa- cilities,” he says in a written statement.

RUSSELL | While Scotiabank branches in three area communities will close in the fall, the Russell branch will not be affected by the move.

“These decisions are not taken lightly and based on our review we are planning to move the Maxville, Avonmore and St- Isidore branches into a new and modern facility in Casselman that will have a fuller range of service options available to our customers. The new branch will provide better and longer business hours and be open on Saturdays, have updated facili- ties, a drive-thru ABM and more room for customer interaction in the facility. We will work with each and every customer to find ways to meet their banking needs and ensure as smooth a transition as possible for all customers and employees. Custom- ers will continue to work with the staff that they have come to know in each of their communities at the new branch. And we continue to remain committed to the peo- ple in Maxville, St-Isidore and Avonmore.” Amendment to fire route bylaw EMBRUN | Some people are taking up space meant for fire trucks. Russell Township council approved two recommendations from the bylaw enforce- ment department based on concerns from both the Russell and the Embrun village fire departments. In Embrun, he fire department has noted some people have a habit of parking their cars and truck in the thruway in front of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce building located near the Independent Gro- cers off of Notre-Dame Street. In Russell village, the same situation is happening with the laneway at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School that is supposed to be a fire route. In both cases these designated fire truck routes are not marked as such so some driv- ers mistake them for public lanes. During its next regular session, coun- cil will approve an amendment to the Fire Route Bylaw to have these two private lanes designated and marked as fire routes. Both the bank and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario will then have to post these lanes as fire routes and out-of- bounds to public parking.
