Health & Wellness NEWSLETTER The Newsletter About Your Health & Caring For Your Body ARE YOU LOOKING FOR PAIN RELIEF? TRY SPINAL MANIPULATION

Do your joints hurt? Is your back causing you trouble? Has your pain become unbearable? If so, you may benefit from spinal manipulation. Spinal manipulation helps relieve pressure on joints, reduce inflammation, and improve nerve function. It is a gentle, hands-on form of manual therapy that focuses on evaluating and enhancing spinal function. Your spine does a lot for your body – it protects your spinal cord, allows you to breathe properly, and it is what allows your body to move. In fact, almost every function in your body is directly connected to the health of your spine. Therefore, even pain that may seem unrelated to spinal function could be effectively relieved through spinal manipulation treatments. To learn more about how spinal manipulation could benefit you, give Marketplace Physical Therapy a call today.

Why is spinal manipulation so important? Your spine is a complicated structure of vertebrae, discs, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Therefore, it takes a delicate balance to make sure it is at its peak level of health and function. This is why spinal manipulation is such an important form of treatment. If you are living with pain, you know how limiting it can be. In order to make sure your spine is at its optimum health, you must achieve the following: • Good posture and spinal curves. • Strong abdominal and core muscles. • Strong spinal and gluteus muscles. • Good flexibility and balance with side-bending and rotation. Our spinal manipulation services can help you get there. If you are in pain, contact Marketplace Physical Therapy as soon as possible. We’ll evaluate your condition to determine if spinal manipulation will be the best course of treatment for you.

SPINAL MANIPULATION AS AN EFFECTIVE, SAFE, & NON-INVASIVE TREATMENT

Spinal manipulation is a treatment method that has been known to relieve a large variety of painful conditions. In fact, a study published by the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy supports spinal manipulation as an effective mode of treatment. The study, titled “Effectiveness of Physical Therapist Administered Spinal Manipulation for the Treatment of LowBack Pain: A Systematic Review of the Literature” analyzed data fromseveral reputablemedical journals to determine the effectiveness of spinal manipulation on patients living with lower back pain. Six randomized control trials were included for review and thoroughly assessed by the researchers. Results were overwhelmingly positive for the success of spinal manipulation. The conclusion is as follows: “Based on the findings of this systematic review there is evidence to support the use of spinal manipulation by physical therapists in clinical practice. Physical therapy spinal manipulation appears to be a safe intervention that improves clinical outcomes for patients with low back pain.”

Activities To Do On SUMMER VACATION

Summertime! It’s a time to follow interests, discover new passions, and experiment. But even the most self-entertaining child sometimes runs out of ideas, so here are some items they can add to their summer checklist. 1. Explore outside. Being outside in nature is important for all children. Fresh air, exercise, and observation of the natural world are synonymous with childhood. See what your kids can discover about the area around your house, and about themselves. 2. Plan a day trip to learn about local attractions. You want to choose a place to visit in your city or town that’s close by. You can check out a place you’ve never been or a place you don’t visit often, which can still be enriching. Places you do visit regularly can also offer new experiences if you explore them from a new angle. If you usually breeze past a local museum, take some time to check out the exhibits over the summer. Historic sites, parks and recreation areas, walking and hiking trails, farms open to the public and amusement parks make great places to explore. You might also plan a trip to a new mall or movie theater that you haven’t visited yet. 3. Go stargazing. Summer is the perfect time to go stargazing. It isn’t too cold at night, and a family snuggle on a blanket looking up at the night sky is an enjoyable way to learn together. Read up on a few constellations and planetary locations ahead of time, and your kids will think you’re a genius. If you are unsure about remaining active during the summer due to pain or an injury, please call a clinic nearest you today. Healthy Seasonal Recipe SIMPLE GRILLED SALMON & VEGETABLES

for support. INGREDIENTS • 1 medium zucchini, halved lengthwise • 2 red, orange and/or yellow bell peppers, trimmed, halved and seeded • 1 medium red onion, cut into 1-inch wedges • 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil • ½ tsp salt, divided • ½ tsp ground pepper • 1¼ pounds salmon fillet, cut into 4 portions

• ¼ cup thinly sliced fresh basil • 1 lemon, cut into 4 wedges DIRECTIONS

Preheat grill to medium-high. Brush zucchini, peppers and onion with oil and sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon salt. Sprinkle salmon with pepper and the remaining ¼ teaspoon salt. Place the vegetables and the salmon pieces, skin-side down, on the grill. Cook the vegetables, turning once or twice, until just tender and grill marks appear, 4 to 6 minutes per side. Cook the salmon, without turning, until it flakes when tested with a fork, 8 to 10 minutes. When cool enough to handle, roughly chop the vegetables and toss together in a large bowl. Remove the skin from the salmon fillets (if desired) and serve alongside the vegetables. Garnish each serving with 1 tablespoon basil and serve with a lemon wedge.
