P recision Switchgear & Controls continues to establish themselves as Ireland’s leading experts in the design and manufacture of Low Voltage Switchgear and Electrical Control Panels with their latest project on 200MW battery energy storage facility in Co. Offaly for Suir Engineering. The Co. Tyrone based company have delivered 30 panels from main switchgear to PLC Scada systems and Independent Protection Control Boards to the landmark €300 million energy storage project located near Lumcloon and Shannonbridge. The new facilities are based on state-of- the-art battery storage technology and consist of 2 x 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that, once completed, will be amongst the largest in Europe and are intended to play a
vital role in expanding Ireland’s renewable energy capacity for the future, by ultimately increasing the stability of the grid and improving reliability of electricity supply to consumers. Once operational, the BESS will be a highly effective and efficient source of backup power to the grid, offering high availability with minimal down time for maintenance outages. The facility is seen as a significant step in Ireland’s bid to meet future climate targets and its transition to a renewable-based electricity grid. Working out of their modern 8,000 sq ft purpose-built office suite and production facilities, Precision were able to call on the switchgear and control systems expertise of their core staff of electrical engineers to successfully produce each MSB to the client’s exact requirements.
Technical details for each board: • Free standing, ASTA Certified, cubical type switchboard. • Switchboard suitable for front cable access, bottom cable entry, top/ bottom cable exit. • Switchboard will comply with BS EN 61439-2 Form 4 Type 6 and BS EN 60529 IP54. • Main Bus Bars will be rated at 1600A and have a short circuit withstand of 50kA for one second • 4200x2100x600 • 2 x 1600 withdrawable 4P ACB with ML6.0P (LSIG -Power) with programmable contacts • 16 x MCCB ML 5.2 Feeder (LSI) • Deepsea Changeover and Metering • Surge Type 1 & 2
