R enovation is at the heart of the European social and economic recovery post-covid-19. In a submission to Eamon Ryan TD, the Minister for Transport and the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, the LAI has pushed for lighting to be included as an integral part of the EU Renovation Wave. In addition to the obvious energy and carbon reductions for Ireland as a whole, the inclusion of lighting within the EU Renovation Wave Initiative will also benefit the electrical sector, and electrical contractors in particular. Increased support and incentives for lighting renovation will mean additional opportunities for electrical installers who, by working closely with the product European Green Deal and has been identified as a key driver for the supply sector, can offer tailored lighting renovation solutions for all types and scale of project. The LAI Steering Committee and Technical Committee in Ireland have been working hard behind the scenes, lobbying and submitting information to Minister

Ryan and his advisers which sets out the case for lighting in the context of energy saving, carbon reduction and wellbeing. This campaign was ramped up to include other key policy decision makers in the Department of Housing Planning and Local Government (DHPLG), SEAI, etc. The association has also reached out to the entire professional and trade representative bodies within construction. Encouragingly, we’ve already had very positive feedback, and from the most senior policy advisers and decision- makers, all of who are currently preparing specific strategy and action plans for the immediate and long-term future. Our aim is to convince them of the vast contribution lighting has to make in realising Ireland’s Climate Action Plan objectives, the ideals of the EU Renovation Wave Initiative, and our statutory obligations by way of energy savings and carbon reduction.
