what it’s all about You may not know that APi NSG does a lot of work with general contractors to complete remodels, upgrades, and new construction. Many of the projects we work on are for current customers since we already have a working knowledge of their fire protection systems, making the job easier on both parties involved. Typically, facilities choose to use a general contractor for large projects within their facility or when building a facility because it allows them to get all aspects of a job completed while working with one point of contact. When bidding on a job, a general contractor must first collect bids from three different companies within each of the scopes needed such as flooring, plumbing, and fire protection. Once all bids have been collected from trade companies, the GC chooses the provider with the best value from each trade category, adds the costs together, and then presents a final proposal to the customer. If customers work with service providers regularly, they are able to request that their current provider will be included in the bid process. Since many of our customers already trust us and know we understand their systems, it is usually a good idea to recommend us to the general contractors, as they may not know we are an option and will go with other local service providers. The general contracting world can be confusing, so hopefully this clears up a few things. If you have any further questions or inquiries, do not hesitate to reach out to our General Contracting Team. general contracting what our customers should know

faces in the field: chris hooper ifp | atlanta, ga

As temperatures drop, it’s necessary to prepare your facilities to avoid freeze-ups in your sprinkler pipes. Some of the most common service calls related to freeze-ups result from minor issues that could have been prevented by something as small as draining drum drips (low points). Click here for a checklist to help you prepare for the cold temperatures and avoid costly repairs (pictured below).

He admits to being a nerd and would love to meet JRR Tolkien or C.S. Lewis if possible. If Chris was stuck with one meal for the rest of his life he would choose a 3-egg omelet with everything on it, side of bacon, and an americano.... YUM!

speed mentoring an event by women in construction building great leaders

This month, the Women in Construction committee hosted a Speed Mentoring event where employees had the opportunity to meet with senior leaders of our company face to face. Some of these leaders included our CEO, CFO, company Presidents etc. In short, all very busy people that took a large chunk of their day to meet with employees and answer questions or give advice. This was an amazing opportunity and many of our employees were able to attend. Here’s what one of our employees had to say about the event: “The APi Group Speed Mentoring event was an invaluable opportunity to speak with people that I wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance. Even if I could have spoken to these leaders in another context, mentorship wouldn’t have been at the forefront of our minds and the conversations probably wouldn’t have led to future development support. For so many Presidents and COOs to take a whole morning out of their calendar...it really shows APi’s commitment to the mission of Building Great Leaders TM .” - Megan Mullowney, Implementation Team Lead

beam smoke detection protecting areas with high ceilings and beyond How can this system benefit you?

Beam smoke detection is perfect for rooms with high ceilings that are not accessible or are unsafe for technician service and testing. This type of detection is a great solution for covering large areas where traditional point detectors are not practical. Some benefits of beam smoke detection include less cost to install due to their need for less wiring and they are generally compact for areas requiring discreet protection. If you believe beam smoke detection would be a good fit for your facility, reach out to Ben McCurdy for more information. Below is the beam smoke system protecting the atrium at our facility in New Brighton!

SimpleSense is a startup company working on improving response times for first responders by delivering them better data while they’re on route to an emergency. Early tests with the Reno Fire Department and Erie Fire Department have shown a potential 4x improvement in search times, using simple occupancy sensors installed inside commercial buildings. This technology has the potential to not only help the victims to be found faster, but will also keep emergency personnel safer. They won’t be searching unknown/unnecessary areas and the amount of time they are in a building at risk will be reduced. Here are a few reasons SimpleSense will be so amazing upon its completion: • 100% privacy compliant • Installs in 20 Seconds - no power or network connection required besides cell signal • Built to last - resist dust, moisture, and temperature extremes
