CTRM Aero Composites Sdn Bhd (CTRM AC) a member of DRB-Hicom is the second-tier supplier for aircraft OEM. CTRM AC produce and supply mainly wing, nacelle and tail plane composite component for 5 OEMs consist of Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, MRJ and Embraer through first tier. Recently CTRM AC has been awarded with the Airbus’ Best Performer 2019 – the evaluation criteria for the award are based on on-time delivery performance, quality performance and continuous improvement initiative. Globally, OEMs are competing to produce highly efficient aircraft by lowering operational cost-per-seat. They are not solely focused on highly efficient fuel-burn power plant alone, but also improving the aerodynamic and reducing weight aspects of it as well. The introduction of Leading-Edge Aviation Propulsion (L.E.A.P) engine and new wing tip are major transformation in a new single aisle aircraft. Overall weight reduction has always been part of key programs in redesigning aircraft’s structure where it promotes more composites component to replace metallic parts.

Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) CTRM AC known as reputable aero composite supplier in the world wishes not to be left behind in the race to the top. Having been around with some notable achievements in the past 40 years since the manual hand layup technology, CTRMAC started evaluating automated layup technology in 2016. In composite manufacturing jargon, layup is where the “composite” is being made. This is where prepreg or fibre is impregnated with resin system and then stacked individually into the mould tool as required in the Layup Process. This process currently being executed manually and requires highly skilled personnel to manage it. Dimensions are mostly limited to human ergonomic and material needs to be suited for handling.
