26. KILLER WHALES AND THEIR PREY IN ICELAND Amidst a breathtaking volcanic landscape, join one of the first research projects in Iceland to look at how the diet of the ocean’s top predator impacts its health and survival. Observe killer whales, monitoring their behavior and collecting acoustic recordings, as they forage through coastal waters. Better understanding these predators and their prey will allow scientists to help establish policies to protect these animals from future environmental change. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate DURATION: 12 days FIELDING MONTHS: Jun., Jul., Aug. U.S.: $3,850 | U.K.: £2,125

25. WILDLIFE IN THE CHANGING ANDORRAN PYRENEES Among the secluded high slopes of the Andorran Pyrenees, climate change is causing irreversible changes. Help researchers investigate this landscape in order to identify mitigation strategies. Become acquainted with the wildlife as you band birds, monitor nest boxes, assess mammal diversity with camera and small mammal traps, study alpine flowers and fungi, and assess soil health within this remote mountain ecosystem. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Very Active DURATION: 7-9 days

FIELDING MONTHS: Jan., May, Jul., Sep. U.S.: $2,150–$2,550 | U.K.: £1,600–£1,900

"You will be armed with a powerful experience, knowledge, and an intense motivation to bring it back to your own community and find ways to involve others in the conversation. You will be a 'real scientist!'" — Joanne Bleiler, Wildlife in the Changing Andorran Pyrenees
