CLIMATE CHANGE AT THE ARCTIC’S EDGE Perched along the Arctic treeline on the seacoast within North America’s largest wetland lies Churchill, Manitoba— the “polar bear capital of the world.” This area is extremely sensitive to small environmental changes. Warming temperatures have led to shrinking areas of polar sea ice, freshwater wetlands that are drying up, and less extensive winter snowpack that melts earlier.
