2021 Report to Our Community

MARY MCELROY, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF HOSPICE SERVICES

In less than 24 hours, we were ready to vaccinate hundreds of people and treat them in the same familial manner that our health system partners had shown us. Mary’s tireless efforts were recognized by First Coast News, and she was awarded and acknowledged as one of the “12 Who Care” in our community. She will be the first to tell you that the clinical team should be awarded and recognized, not her, and that caring for our community is not just our mission, it’s our calling.

We have always supplied our teams with personal protective equipment, even when there was a national shortage, but repeated attempts to secure vaccinations for them created an ongoing challenge. After weeks and months of trying, Mary McElroy, Senior Vice President of Hospice Services, reached out to her long-standing relationships at area health systems to inquire about vaccines for our staff. They responded with immediacy and invited our staff to get in line with their employees to receive their initial vaccination against the virus. The employees of Memorial Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville, and others welcomed our employees with open arms and referred to them as “family.” As these vaccination opportunities came to a close, Mary and her team received an urgent request from the Florida Department of Health. They asked if our Sunbeam Road headquarters could be transformed into a vaccination site for the people of our community. The People With Compassion.
