Board of Trustees meeting Agenda | May 2019

• The simulation at the end of the class was amazing and a very valuable part of the course. It really showed how much I learned and that I can properly defend myself. • This was a fantastic class. I feel so prepared for the world and knowledgeable about self-defense now. • The guys who run the program are amazing. They are so encouraging and supportive. They really take this course seriously and make sure that EVERYONE is able to complete it and do it well. Knowing they are just as excited to see us succeed as we are, really pushed me to get these techniques down. They were goofy and made the course really interesting while providing many opportunities for us to exhibit skills we have learned. The guys did not only focus on just teaching techniques but supporting us learning more about ourselves and becoming more confident in our abilities to protect ourselves- this is absolutely so invaluable. Thank you!! • This course did a great job of teaching me several self-defense moves in order to put my mind at ease. As someone who lives alone and travels alone frequently, my family and I feel safer knowing that I would know what to do in a bad situation. The simulation that we were required to do at the end of the class was awesome. • Simulation - it was so much fun and very realistic! • I felt completely safe in this course, and I was given a large amount of time to practice the skills we were taught and I feel confident that I would be able to use them if needed. • The course was very applicable and helpful in that it didn't only teach self-defense, but helped the students understand why it was necessary to learn these skills. The instructors did a great job of explaining the thinking behind the course and unfortunately why it's necessary for this course to be taught at all. They also did a great job engaging with the students and encouraging and motivating. Budget Information The CWU Police Department is funded from two sources: state 149 (9.65 officers) and parking 524 fund (4.35 officers). The parking fund is comprised of revenue from the sale of parking passes and parking tickets. This funding model has been in place for several years. The department went to a split-funded model due to budget cuts during the time of the recession. The intent was to shift positions from state funding to parking revenue rather than eliminate officer positions. The table below is the budget breakdown for each fund in comparison to EWU and WWU. Table 6: Budget comparison Institutional Budget FY20 Salaries Goods and Services # of Officers Funded CWU Police State $985,547 $89,046 9.65 CWU Parking Revenue $550,366 $91,435 * 4.35 EWU Police $1,865,486 $171,020 16 WWU Police $1,799,507 ** $260,000 15 *Kittcom annual contract price for FY20 and FY21 **Includes five dispatcher positions
