Board of Trustees meeting Agenda | May 2019

October 22, 2018

James L. Gaudino President Central Washington University 314 Barge Hall 400 East University Way Ellensburg, WA 98926

Dear Jim,

As you know, the Central Washington University Board of Trustees evaluated your performance for the 2017-2018 academic year at the board’s annual planning retreat in July. This is consistent with CWUP 1- 10-050 [Powers and Duties], which requires the Board of Trustees to evaluate the president annually. The evaluation focused on your general leadership qualities, as well as progress on initiatives the trustees asked you to prioritize last fall. The evaluation was based both upon your own self-assessment and a survey of university leaders, including the following: • Board of Trustees (8) • President’s Cabinet (7) • Faculty Senate Executive Committee; Exempt Employees Association chair; Employee Council chair; Academic Department Chairs Organization chair; (11) • Individuals who report to the president/divisional vice presidents (25) The Trustees were very pleased with your performance and look forward to your continued leadership of the university. We appreciate the vision, energy and innovation you bring to CWU. We believe strongly that your leadership has enabled CWU to flourish in spite of extraordinary economic, political, and educational challenges and change. As the new school year approaches, the board wishes to make explicit for you, as well as for the general university community, the work we would like you to prioritize during the 2018-2019 academic year. Following are those priorities:

1.) Fully implement Responsibility-Center Management and Activity-Based Budgeting.

2.) Fully implement the updated general education curriculum.

3.) Complete the work to update and articulate the CWU baccalaureate experience.
