Board of Trustees meeting Agenda | May 2019

Winter Quarter brought the challenge of the “Active Shooter” situation. The ASCWU officers came together and were briefed by the President and cabinet members, as well as the Police chief in the events of the night. ASCWU, after the incident, held an open forum with the President, Provost, VP of Operations and Police Chief. This was to help with transparency, and make clear the concerns that the students were left with after that night. Winter weather was also a concern for our students. Winter storms that hit Ellensburg brought high levels of snow, and the student body was significantly concerned and upset with the continuation of university functions and classes. The ASCWU officers drafted a letter that was sent to the Cabinet and President to bring the significant concern to them for action, and to be sure that we were echoing the students to the administration. The group known as “Patriot Prayer” came to our campus during the early weeks of Spring Quarter. A 2 nd amendment rights and right-wing group that held an event directly outside of Black Hall to debate and talk to students. The ASCWU, and notably the ESC, worked towards spreading awareness about the event and the group that has been involved in charged and intense situations. The ESC organizations and students stood out the day of to counter this event and show support of diversity and inclusion. ASCWU Elections The elections of the next ASCWU Officers took place during March and April, the General election taking place on April 25 th . All positions have been elected, and the Election Commission affirmed the results as of April 29 th . The results are as follows for the 2019-2020 Academic Year: Jasmine Washington – President Alejandro Alcantar – Executive Vice President Ashley Klippert – Vice President of Clubs and Organizations Nick Meija – Vice President of Academic Affairs
