Board of Trustees meeting Agenda | May 2019

effectively carry out their work. Maurice, with the ESC organizations, have pushed for enhancements of the PUSH pantries on campus to provide food and goods to our students that are in need. New organizations of the ESC have been inducted to serve and continue expanding the efforts of the ESC to represent our students from minority and underprivileged groups. Funding has been allocated to these organizations to put on over 20 events that support the students that ESC promotes and educating all students on the importance of diversity, equity and accessibility. Jocelyn works with our administration and students in providing the best possible experience for the students through the services and departments that impact them daily. Some notable efforts this year includes the SURC Feasibility and Expansion project, Dugmore Hall planning and construction, new dining facility planning and construction, the Recreation expansion and overseeing the Student Union, Recreation, Housing and Dining and Wildcat Shop advisory boards. The SURC Expansion efforts, which have been taking surveys of students, reached 20% of the student body for responses. The new Residence Hall and Dining Facility, along with the entire North Campus expansion as a whole, has been worked on alongside Jocelyn. She has promoted and provided student opportunities to be heard and provide input into the process. In her leadership, she has guided the advisory boards to the areas that student interact with every day, including the re-addition of Housing to the committees through working with the Housing and Residence Life administration. Leah has lead the Office of Legislative Affairs this past year, through midterm elections, to the legislative session in Olympia. Working with student, she began and recruited students for the Student Legislative Action committee to define and recommend the legislative agenda of the student body. Leah has also served as the President of the Washington Student Association and representing all higher education institutions in Olympia. Zach Turner, the Legislative Liaison and lobbyist for CWU students in 2019 was an instrumental person in taking our agenda to the legislators in Olympia, passing laws that support students. Some examples include bills related to the full funding of the Washington State Need Grant, Undocumented Student Loans, and bills supporting student mental health, student housing food security and veteran students. HB 2158, HB 1726, SB 5166 and SB 5800 were all passed this past legislative session in support of higher education students. Tragedies and Incidents This past year has been a long one, full of many incidents that impacted students in many ways. In Fall Quarter, we lost two Wildcats to terrible circumstances. The ASCWU supported and helped the Office of Student Involvement and the Student Success division in providing a memorial service to the two wildcats, who will forever be remembered for their service and involvement.
