Commitment to the Coast

DID YOU KN-EAU? The History of State Road A1A from Boynton Beach to Palm Beach State Road A1A, originally stretching from the northern U.S. to Miami, once ran between the ocean and the original La Coquille Club, now the site of Eau Palm Beach. Due to hurricane damage between 1939 and 1964, sections of A1A were abandoned and relocated inland, leaving the old road submerged near the resort’s beach. Today, this sunken section, about 100 feet from the seawall, has become a protected artificial reef, providing habitat for diverse marine life and serving as a unique snorkeling spot for guests. By preserving this reef, our resort supports biodiversity, protects coastlines, and contributes to broader sustainability and conservation efforts. For safety, complimentary water shoes and snorkel gear are provided.
