CoreSolutionsPhysio_Solutions For Your Neck Pain and Headac…

Congratulations to Alex Caramete who attempted her Advanced Manual therapy written exam this past Sept 15th. The exam application process is very tedious just to apply, let alone attempt! The application included submission of her Level 5 certificate and confirmation of mentorship hours with a fellow physiotherapist who has already completed this accreditation. The Multiple Choice and Case History Exam is now behind her and she is leading up to the upcoming practical exam later in the Fall! We all know that she will be successful in both - because we all see how successful she is in helping her clients! Good luck Alex! We first featured Michael Boni last October where he discussed with us his reason for returning back to school....this time for his PHd! Congratulations is now due and a new moniker has grown, as all the staff now call him Dr. Boni! Please know that Mike did this to benefit his clients. All of the time he spent on current research and teaching not only benefit this new degree status but Michael was offered a position as full-time Faculty after many years of lecturing within the Faculty of Health and Kinesiology. Both of these distinctions are an amazing feat especially when Michaelis so involved with his family and running multiple clinics. Congratulations Dr. Boni!

to develop more frequently, and before you know it, your experience of neck pain is something you are dealing with daily. It isn’t always the result of something large. While being inacaraccidentorexperiencinganothersortof injury can definitely lead to chronic neck pain, the cause of the issue isn’t always as simple to identify. Sometimes it is a bad habit that you don’t really think twice about, like your habit of watchingTV as you fall asleep, keeping your neck at an odd angle as you rest for the evening, or maybe as a result of your posture as you type at your desk every day, hunchedoverat theshoulderswithyourneckcatching the brunt of your slouch. These poor habits are common, and most of us consider them to be harmless. Sure, you know it isn’t great for you, but what is actually going to happen? It’s a lot easier to slouch as you type, and who doesn’t want to catch a few late-night laughs as they fall asleep? But the reality is that these seemingly irrelevant habits could be putting undue stress on your neck, and if you aren’t careful, this could translate to regular and uncomfortable headaches that are difficult to get rid of.

Working with a physiotherapist can help you to identify whether or not your headaches may be the result of neck pain or strain. One of the most common causes of headaches due to neck pain is forward head position. Forward head position means that when you are resting your head, you are continuing to hold your head slightly forward, which is a type of slouching position. You can identify whether or not you have a forward head position by standing straight against the wall and determining whether or not your head rests against the wall as your back does. If your head does not touch the wall when you are standing straight, then you aren’t fully standing up straight! As years go by and day after day you continue to hold your head in this forward position, you can start to experience pain as a result of strain in the muscles of the neck. When this is an issue, working with a physiotherapist may be able to help. Stretching the muscles in your neck to alleviate neck strain can reduce the severity and regularity of your headaches. Stretching the muscles that have grown tight along the back of your neck as well as those along the shoulderscan helpyou find relief from the tension that iscausing yourpain. When dealing with neck pain, it is important to remember that safety has to come first. While there are many simple activities you can try at home to begin stretching your neck muscles, working with a physiotherapist is the only way to ensure that you are stretching in a way that won’t potentially lead to greater injury. Ensure your kids drink plenty of water Dehydration can lead to a system overload. Our thinking becomes cloudy, energy diminishes, cell activity becomes sluggish and elimination becomes stagnant. Sending your kids to school with 1-2 water bottles daily is one of the easiest and healthiest options. Adding freshly squeezed lemon and lime can add flavor and aids in digestion. Make sure children get enough sleep Growing children need sleep, although they will beg to differ with you! It is vital to their mood, behavior and attention. Children aged 6-13 need about 9-11 hours of sleep a night. To help your children get a good night’s sleep, help instill a regular bedtime routine, ensure the TV, computer, video games and cell phone are out of your child’s bedroom and that the room is as dark as possible. Essential oils, such as lavender, can help to release tension and allow for relaxation as well.

The lunchtime sandwich may be the standard option, but let’s face it: Slapping the same smears onto bread — day after day, week after week — can leave kids and parents a little bored. NUT FREE - SANDWICH FREE BOX LUNCH Hummus and Pita Plate Nine out of 10 kids love a good smear of hummus. Why not make it the star of the show? Pack with: Salami, olives, carrots, baby tomatoes, and grapes. (Note that dipping is easier and less messy if you pack the hummus in a separate container.) Using these back-to-school nutrition tips, you can set the tone for the school year and support your child’s health, happiness and success. Wishing all kids a wonderful school year!
