Woodland burials What is a woodland burial? Woodland burial was once seen as a niche alternative, however today many people are looking for a more environmentally friendly method of burial. We offer a dignified service that is provided within a natural setting. You will not see rows of headstones, just beautiful countryside. Graves can be marked with bronze plaques. Some woodland burial sites choose to bury between mature trees and whilst this may look immediately appealing this could destroy existing delicate surface roots, which can impact on the long term health of the trees. Our philosophy is to create a new wood through the planting of native trees, thereby adding to the country’s tree stock. The native trees planted provide an ideal habitat for a variety of wildlife, helping to sustain the surrounding environment.

5

Why create a new woodland? Woodlands and trees are essential to life and have numerous benefits for both wildlife and people. • Provide shelter • Absorb and store carbon • Generate oxygen • Provide fuel and food • Rejuvenate and stabilise the soil • Create habitats for wild flora and fauna Mayfields trees Mayfields are working with the Wildlife Trust to ensure a programmed planting of native trees, creating a woodland habitat in keeping with the local area. To ensure the long term health of the wood we have a planned management programme for our trees. This will entail trimming, lopping and even cutting down trees to ensure an ongoing cycle of growth. To avoid any possible upset to families, and for the benefit of all, trees will not be planted on individual graves but will be planted around them.

Music and visual life tributes The music played at the funeral is an important choice and for many it remains an abiding memory. Music does not have to be limited to classical pieces or a hymn. Favourite pop songs, musicals and even music recorded by a family member can help personalise the funeral service. Wesley multi media Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground has joined tradition with technology and has the Wesley Media system which provides an extensive music library with multi media screens in both the service hall and vestibule area. The state of the art system provides video/audio playback, recording and live The Wesley Media library covers all styles and genres, ensuring the music you require will be available. Wesley Media can help you select the appropriate track or even arrange for recordings of personal performances or very old recordings to be placed on the system. Holding pictures A special picture of your loved one can be a lovely way to personalise your service and can be shown on screen during the service. Alternatively you may wish to use an image from our library, ranging from national flags to soft landscape scenes. Visual life tribute A personal visual life tribute is the ideal way of adding an extremely personal touch to the funeral service. A combination of family photos, images and home video of your loved one is then overlaid with favourite music from the Wesley Media library. web casting facilities. Music selection
