David

has

been

independent contractor for home care agencies in the Burlington County region. David is a Certified Clinical Instructor (CCI) of Physical Therapy Students through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He has furthered his clinical skills by being credentialed by the International McKenzie Institute in Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment of Spinal Disorders. Dave is certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) as well as the Y-Balance Test. He attended numerous courses specializing in Vestibular and Concussion rehabilitation. His areas of interest are Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), functional training (FMS), Geriatrics and Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), as well as gait analysis and running mechanics. David is an avid runner and has participated in numerous races from 5K to marathons including thePhiladelphiaMarathon,MarineCorpsMarathon and Boston Marathon. He enjoys working with runners or potential runners in getting them ready to run for leisure, fitness or races. In his spare time, Dave takes pleasure in spending time with his family and hitting the golf course.

David was employed as an Athletic Trainer at Rutgers University from1986 to 1987. In 1990 he continued his education to receive his Masters of Physical Therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in affiliation with Rutgers University. David worked as a physical therapist at Delaware Valley Physical Therapy Associates in Lawrenceville, NJ from 1990 to 1992 before moving down to Atco, New Jersey to work for PRO Physical Therapy. He then worked at Physical Therapy and Sports Services as a Clinical Director in Willingboro, NJ office from 1995-1996. From there, he worked as an

pierces through the piriformis muscle and can be susceptible to abnormal pressure and irritation. Why Does Sciatica Occur? If there are changes in posture, muscle strength or pelvic alignment, the nerve can be compressed which leads to the quite common low back and sciatic nerve pains. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in your body. It even reaches down to the foot and therefore, can be irritated anywhere along its path. With sciatica, the consequent ache can be felt anywhere from the base of the spine, the buttocks or the back of the thighs and legs. Even tingling sensations in the toes can be attributed at times to the impingement of the sciatic nerve.

• 1/3 cup honey • 1/4 cup soy sauce (reduced sodium) • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic • 1 lb medium uncooked shrimp, peeled & deveined • 2 teaspoons olive oil • Optional: Ginger

SINGLE KNEE TO CHEST STRETCH Lie on your back and bring one knee to your chest, keeping the other foot flat on the floor. Keep your lower back pressed to the floor. Hold for at least 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat 2 to 4 times with each leg.

1. Whisk the honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger (if using) together in a medium bowl. 2. Place shrimp in a large zipped-top bag or tupperware. Pour 1/2 of the marinade mixture on top, give it all a shake or stir, then allow shrimp to marinate in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or for up to 8-12 hours. Cover and refrigerate the rest of the marinade for step 3. (Time-saving tip: while the shrimp is marinating, steam broccoli and microwave some quick brown rice.) 3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place shrimp in the skillet. (Discard used marinade.) Cook shrimp on one side until pink-- about 45 seconds-- then flip shrimp over. Pour in remaining marinade and cook it all until shrimp is cooked through, about 1 minute more. 4. Serve!

One of the hardest things to hear as a runner is that you need to stop running . After all, according to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 80 percent of running injuries are caused by overuse. Physical therapy for running injuries typically consists of stretching and strengthening exercises using stability balls, resistance bands, and body weight exercises. What can I do to avoid injury? First and foremost, avoid the number one pitfall of most runners - increasing mileage too quickly . Try following a run program with built-in gradual increases in mileage. Avoid running on hard surfaces or running downhill if at all possible. A sensible schedule, proper nutrition, rest and regular strength training are also advisable.
