Wardens pleased with budget Wardens for the counties in EasternOntar- io were happy to hear about the provincial government’s plans to boost infrastructure funding as part of the 2016 Ontario budget. A delegation for the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) descended on Toronto last month for the annual Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) confer- ence. One of the highlights of the confer- ence was that the provincial budget would include doubling the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to $100 million this year with plans to increase the fund to $300 million within three years. “This is a prime example of the effective advocacy work being put forward by the EOWC,” statedWarden Peter Emon, EOWC chairman, “as our wardens have long advo- cated for such improvements to municipal infrastructure funding, just as we will con- tinue to do on a number of other issues.” While attending the four-day OGRA con- ference, the EOWC delegation attended a multi-ministerial panel session, which included Municipal Affairs Minister Ted McMeekin, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Jeff Leal, and Economic Develop- ment Minister Brad Duguid. .
