Cowan, well-known writer of such books as “ Streams in the Desert,” “ Springs in the Valley,” and “Mountain T r a i l w a y s for Youth,” went home to be with the Lord Easter Sunday, April 17, after a lingering illness. Andress has re­ ported to the naval station at Davis- ville, Rhode Island, for training in the forthcoming Antartic operation “ Deepfreeze 61.” The young minister is a graduate ( ’51) of Bob Jones Uni­ versity. Melville Capper, professor of Bristol University, Great Britain, will be one of the featured speakers during Inter - Varsity Christian Fellowship’s first national faculty conference at the University of Wisconsin, August 29-31. Dr. Bob Jones, Jr., president of Bob Jones University, has announced that work has begun on a concert hall seating 1,000. Ryrie, president of the Philadelphia College of Bible, has an­ nounced an essay contest for the school which will award an annual tuition scholarship. Rev. Charles J. Jones, editor of the American Sunday School Union publications, is chair­ man of the judging committee. Dr. James G. Dale, after 60 years of active missionary service in Mexico, has resigned as director of the Mexi­ can Indian Mission. Dr. John T . Daley has been elected to succeed his father as director of the mission founded in 1930. Representative Walter Judd (Dem. Minn.) will be one of the keynote speakers for the annual Independence Day observance at the 16th Annual Convention of Youth for Christ Inter­ national held at Winona Lake, Indi­ ana, July 4.

Rev. Phil Kerr, well known for his 16 years of continuous Monday Night Musicals in Pasadena, California, has been forced to temporarily cancel the popular meetings due to two very severe heart attacks which he recently sustained. It is hoped that the musi­ cals may be resumed in the summer months. Mr. William M. Strong, Sr., founder- director emeritus of the Soldiers and Gospel Mission of South America, will have a memorial erected in his honor. This missionary statesman spent 37 of his 83 years in Chile be­ fore going home to be with the Lord early this year. The memorial select­ ed is a Bible training institute for young Chileans. Rev. Bill Bright, director of Campus Crusade for Christ, has been on an 18 country survey trip for CCC. In Korea, a tremendous growth in num­ ber of converts has been n o t e d through the universities and colleges. Dr. Carl Mclntire, president of the International Council of Christian Churches, and Dr. H. C. Slade, Toronto, president of the Canadian Council of Evangelical Protestant C h u r c h e s , have been visiting the Maritime Prov­ inces of Canada during an eight day speaking tour. Dr. Slade recently re­ turned from a similar ICCC tour of 27 cities in Central and S o u t h America. Mr. W . Harold Fuller, editor of the magazine “Now,” published by the Sudan Interior Mission in Africa, has announced that “ at least half of Africa’s bulky land mass has not yet come under the shadow of the gospel ministry.” The report was based on a survey sent to 104 Christian organiza­ tions working throughout Africa. Dr. Bob Pierce, president of World Vision, Inc., has announced a special four day pastor’s conference f o r Colombia, South America to be held in Medellin, second largest city in the country. Other speakers will include: Dr. Richard C. Halverson, Dr. Paul S. Rees, and Rev. Ellsworth Culver. Rev. Keith Bentson, missionary with Orient Crusades and a graduate of Biola, was one of the active partici­ pants in the recent Evangelical Liter­ ature Conference in Argentina. Evan­ gelical publishers in Argentina turn out more material in Spanish than any other country, and more than half the total produced in Latin America.
