of cases, the underlying cause of “ crisisitis” is a dread of the unknown eternity. The Christian gospel is the only answer to this great problem. —A London Journalist. 28. Psalm 1:1, 2: “Blessed is the man that walketh not iri the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Gospels Needed for Personal Work That a more permanent witness may be left with the individuals to whom they speak concerning their Saviour, students df the Bible Institute of Los Angeles frequently give away either a tract or a Gospel of John. At pres ent there 'is special need for a fund to buy this essential equipment for the students as they engage in per sonal work. The famous red-covered emphasized edition of the Gospel of John, prepared by T. C. Horton and containing special outlines on the plan of salvation and other funda mental doctrines of the Word of God, is in perhaps the greatest demand. During the school year closing in June of 1941, the students reported that they had distributed 5,338 Gos pels and 225,000 tracts and cellophane- rolled groups of tracts. Friends who wish to have a part in this literature distribution by their gifts of money may communicate with S. H. Suther land, Director of Practical Work, The Bible Institute of Los Angeles, 558 S. Lord, I give up my own purposes and plans, all my own desires, hopes, and ambitions, and accept Thy will for my life. I give myself, my life, my all, utterly to Thee,' to be Thine forever. I hand over to Thy keeping all of my friendships. . . . Fill me and seal me with Thy Holy Spirit. Work out Thy whole will in my life, at any cost, now and forever. To me to live is Christ. Amen.—Written by Betty Scott Stam, the martyr of modern Christian .missions in China, in her Bible in 1925. 27. The Ruling Heavens “Be not afraid of sudden fear . . . for the Lord shall be thy confidence” (Prov. 3:25, 26). There is no avoiding the issue. If only we believe firmly in the over ruling providence of God, and, being sure of His salvation, have no fear of death, we should not give way to “jittèrs” in time of war. In thousands
22. His to Choose “Do thou for me” #(Psa. 109:21). The psalmist does not say what he wanted God to do for him. He leaves it open. So this, most restful prayer is left open for all perplexed hearts Xb appropriate according to their sev eral necessities . . . open fbr God to fill up in His own way. Only a trust ing heart can pray this prayer at all; the very utterance of it is an act of faith. We could not ask any one whom we did not know intimately and trust implicitly, to do for us with out even suggesting what.—F. R. H. 23. Reckoned Dead “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:11). Why should I pray’ for power, dear Lord, When Thou dost dwell within? All power on earth to Thee is given— All power to Thee in heaven. Presenting this, my body, now As Thou Thyself hast willed, According to the promise given, - I shall be Spirit-filled. So, then, when crucified with Christ, When He lives, and not I, To learn to yield will be my prayer, And what it means to die. % —V. C. Kelford. 24. A Gracious Provision “My Gad shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). “His riches” . . . The wealth of His love—that never grows weary, nor less! . . . Oh, anxious soul, He who loves you so much, cares, so much, too, about •all your need. The treasures of His wisdom — there are depths here to cover all your perplexities; there is provision here to tackle all your prob lems. The boundless stores of His grace—“enough, and to spare” for all
