Purpose of Role:

• To direct strategically the operations of the University’s real estate, capital projects (excluding the 2 major capital projects LCC and LCF and others if appropriate), and facilities management activities. This includes 16 academic sites and owned halls of residence (1 currently but expanding)

• To head up the strategic planning and the day to day management of real estate transactions and general practice issues including landlord and tenant management for the University estate.

Duties and Responsibilities (Associate Director)

• To support and deputise for the Director of Estates where called upon and in their absence.

• To ensure the individual areas of operation are dovetailed into a fully coordinated service covering all aspects of development, operational running and maintenance of the estate.

• To train, lead and motivate staff to provide a customer focused service that provides a high level of satisfaction and experience for students and staff, structuring your teams to be highly effective. Front line student facing staff in particular must focus on providing a courteous and positive experience for our students.

• To ensure all staff act professionally and are properly trained and empowered to undertake their duties.

• To monitor and benchmark costs and performance of the areas under your management internally and externally, providing regular dashboard reports to the Director.

• To take responsibility for the development and management of real estate budgets and to be accountable for keeping expenditure on track. Also for overseeing budgets managed by direct reports.

• To work closely and collaboratively with peers and colleagues in all other areas of Estates activities to ensure effective collective team working and that to ensure our facilities are designed, procured, constructed operated (where applicable) and maintained effectively and sustainably. • To work collaboratively with other University support services, especially Finance, Legal and Procurement, and College management teams in providing services in the academic buildings that complement course requirements and the specific needs of students and staff. Of particular importance is the interfaces with IT in delivering a digital estate of the future whilst supporting colleges in delivering ever changing pedagogical demands.

• To act as an ambassador for the University in these fields of expertise presenting the university as a leading and informed organisation in these areas.

• To ensure adherence to all Health and Safety and Compliance requirements.

• To assist the Director in ensuring that the department acts as a cohesive team maximising the benefits of the cross functional skills. These are to be used to deliver a high level of customer service and optimum value in the execution of the overarching estates strategy, supporting the University Strategy through annual operating plans.
