Kappa Journal Spring Issue (Spring 2017)

much just embrace the brotherhood that this great Fraternity offers. I re- ally want to take my time and talk to “old heads” and see what knowledge they have to offer and just enjoy my time. This is an undergraduate fraternity and we need more presence of us younger brothers in many settings because we too have a say in certain things. Our voices need to be heard. We are all about achievement and I doubt a brother of mine would let me fail. There are plenty of resourc- es to reach out to.

Journal: What do you want to get out of the 83 rd Grand Chapter Meet- ing? Garcia: This is my first ever Conclave and I am beyond excited. I want to live the entire experi- ence to the fullest. For example, I am participating in Lead Kappa and through that I want to further develop my leadership skill and meet new undergraduate brothers from across the country. I believe this leadership program will definitely open up Conclave in a great way. I want to be able to network at the Grand Chapter Meeting and pretty

need to spend more time with us. The relationship will only get better if both sides make an effort. There are just certain things us undergrads can’t find anywhere else besides our old heads. They always have rich information and help to offer. Finally, to increase the presence of undergrads in Province Meetings and Grand Chapter Meetings is to just make it more known to them. I know you can read on the website to see what is going on around Kappa, but we need it pushed in our faces. We are all about social media and probably won’t read around to see what meetings we can attend. We need more visible in other media. Also, if there were more opportuni- ties to attend such as help from the Province, I think that would encour- age undergraduate brothers to go. Journal: What did it mean to you to be the closed banquet speaker for the 67 th Southern Province Council? Garcia: Being the closed banquet speaker for the 67 th Southern Prov- ince Council was a huge honor. To me, it meant that someone actu- ally wanted to hear what a young Neophyte has to say. This is truly an undergraduate fraternity and what better way to hear about that than from an undergrad himself. But the fact that it was me, I still cannot believe it. Being able to meet and take a picture with the 26 th , 30 th , 32 nd and 33 rd Grand Polemarchs of Kappa Alpha Psi ® was incredible. I even got to sit up on stage and eat with them and joke around. It was an experience that I never thought I would be a part of when I joined Kappa Alpha Psi ® . It meant a lot that someone saw the potential in an individual with such little experi- ence. I really just want to thank the Southern Province Polemarch, Brother [Bertram K.] Orum, and the entire Southern Province for listen- ing to me with open ears.
