Maquel Marshall, Brother Dr. Samuel Odom, Kappa Foundation Executive Direc- tor L’Mani Viney, Brother Dr. Kenneth Taylor and Dr. Leonard Haynes. Broth- ers were provided talking points and additional information regarding the various topics. Brothers took to Capitol
Hill to meet with Members of Congress and/or their staff on Tuesday, May 2 to advocate for the issues discussed the day before. Brother Members of Congress gathered with all the Brothers attend- ing for a photo on the Capitol Steps. All eight Kappas in Congress participated in either the Capitol Photo, One Minute Floor Speech about Kappas on Capitol Hill, the luncheon or the reception. The Brothers were treated to a very encouraging message by Civil Rights Leader Brother Ben Jealous who served as the keynote speaker at the Howard L. Tutman Jr. Luncheon held at the Hyatt Capitol Hill. Kappa Brothers and Members of Congress Alcee L. Hastings of Florida, Sanford Bishop of Georgia
and William Lacy Clay of Missouri, provided riveting remarks as well. The event culminated with a reception in honor of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , at the Wash- ington D.C. Alumni House. Brother Congressman John J. Conyers, Jr. of Michigan and Past National President of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc., Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, joined brothers at the reception. National Political Awareness Committee Chairman Brother Britton Smith along with the Province Political Awareness Committee Chairmen and brothers who serve as staff members on Capitol Hill and in the White House were commended for their efforts in making the 2017 Legislative Policy Con- ference a Kappa success.
