I am proud to report on my first term as your Assistant Deputy Mayor, during which I have actively represented the vibrant community of Sunrise. Since my election, I have strengthened my commitment to collaboration and transparent communication, ensuring that resident input directly informs the policies and progress shaping our city. In partnership with the Mayor and commissioners, I have worked to maintain a balanced municipal budget while advancing essential services that deliver measurable benefits to our residents. We have prioritized investments in transportation, infrastructure, improved neighborhood drainage systems, and expanded Wi-Fi access in public spaces. Our focused efforts in public safety and strategic commercial development have driven sustainable economic growth, attracted new businesses, created jobs, and reinforced the safety and strength of our neighborhoods. Our dedication to improving quality of life in Sunrise is evident throughout the community. We have strengthened our support for citywide schools and successfully completed several key recreational initiatives. Notably, we opened the staff-designed, cost-efficient Hiatus Road Trailhead Park and installed new canopy shading in select parks to improve accessibility and comfort. We also launched Signature Sunrise, a premier event rental venue that provides residents with an elegant and affordable space for community gatherings and celebrations. Entertainment in our city has reached new heights. The Sunrise Amphitheater reopened as a revitalized hub for live performances, while the Tunes ’N Trucks concert series achieved record attendance, demonstrating strong community engagement. Our “We Are One” celebrations continue to grow, highlighted by the successful 2nd Annual Caribbean American Heritage Festival, which
showcased and honored the Caribbean Impact within the city. We introduced the City’s first drone shows, adding innovative programming to our events calendar, with another performance scheduled for July 4th at Amerant Bank Arena. Additionally, our Light Up the Holidays celebration reached record participation, creating memorable experiences for families throughout Sunrise. Looking ahead to 2027, as Sunrise approaches its 65th anniversary, we remain focused on thoughtful growth and honoring our roots, particularly in the eastern part of our city. Several major commercial projects are set to begin, including Sunset Strip Square, which will deliver 29 affordable homes; Solterra, a 900-unit residential development; and The Ray, featuring 415 multifamily units, including 138 affordable residences. Additional city improvements such as the NW 60th Avenue enhancements, Library Square build-out, and the Celebrate Sunrise Entryway Artwork will further enrich our community. These initiatives will strengthen and balance established destinations like Village Art Plaza, City Hall, and Roarke Hall. Community connection remains central to my work. We have expanded opportunities for residents to engage together through monthly Farmers Markets, Soca Fitness and yoga classes, and Run Club events. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Mayor, my fellow Commissioners, the City Manager, our Chiefs, and our dedicated City staff for their leadership and collaboration. Together, we have delivered meaningful progress for Sunrise. As we look to the future, let us embrace the new
opportunities ahead with respect, unity, optimism, and shared commitment to excellence.
