different classes that cover what kids can do to get ready if they have not started.” The workshop also introduces young entrepreneurs to financial concepts, including budgeting and what to do with the money they earn. “It helps in getting their minds thinking about what to do with the money they make and shows the financial side of the lemonade stand with the emphasis on making sure to have fun!” O’Byrne says. For O’Byrne, teaching financial literacy early is one of the program’s biggest benefits. “Finances are a tricky subject for people to talk about, but getting started young with something like Lemon U and Lemonade Day should hopefully open up that conversation,” she says. “The more we talk about it, the more we can understand, plan for, and even ask for help if we need.”

“Kids also learn the importance of setting a goal, making a plan, and following through with that plan.” The program gives participants resources and guidance to create their own lemonade stands, from developing a concept and setting goals to managing expenses and interacting with customers. For many kids, it is their first opportunity to experience entrepreneurship firsthand. PREPARING THROUGH LEMON U A key part of the Lemonade Day experience is Lemon U, a workshop designed to help participants prepare before opening their stands. Now in its second year, the program introduces kids to entrepreneurship basics while helping them think through their ideas, goals and plans. “Lemon U is a great starting place to get kids excited for Lemonade Day,” says Eaen O’Byrne, office manager at Altra Credit Union. “We have two different age groups for two
