LEMONADE DAY

Feature

"Lemonade Day not only teaches kids how to build and operate their own business, but it also gives them the tools they need to further develop lifelong skills such as money management, problem solving, and forward thinking"

GROWING A COMMUNITY TRADITION Since its introduction in Rochester, Lemonade Day has continued to expand, gaining between 50 and 100 new participants each year while also welcoming back returning entrepreneurs. The Chamber continues to partner with youth enrichment and after-school programs to bring the curriculum to more families throughout the region. This year’s highlights included the second annual Lemon U Workshop, which sold out again, as well as the return of the Best Tasting Contest. The contest brought together young entrepreneurs and local business leaders, giving participants an opportunity to showcase their products and improve their ideas. “It was exciting to bring back the Best Tasting Contest, which brought together local business leaders and young entrepreneurs in their second or third year of the program looking to improve their recipes and business models,” Gowen says.

YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS TURN IDEAS INTO ACTION

For young participants, Lemonade Day is an opportunity to take an idea and bring it to life.

For Iris, this year marked her first Lemonade Day experience. With help from her family, she created her stand, prepared lemonade and designed her own signs and advertising.
