Tyler Brighton, un élève de l’École secon- daire catholique L’Escale, a participé au championnat provincial de cross-country de l’OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) à Petawawa, le sa- medi 4 novembre. Tyler était le seul élève de L’Escale ins- crit au championnat, samedi, et était un des quatre participants dans la catégorie ambulatoire. Tyler, qui souffre de paralysie cérébrale, ne laisse pas son handicap physique l’em- pêcher de faire du sport – il joue aussi au hockey et au badminton. « Ce que j’admire, c’est qu’il participe. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de jeunes avec un handicap qui choisissent d’y aller, car ils ont peur de se faire juger ou de faire rire
Tyler Brighton a commencé à pratiquer l’athlétisme l’année passée, avec son école, et s’est découvert un intérêt pour le sport tout de suite. « J’ai quand même bien fait, alors j’ai décidé d’essayer le cross country cette année », a confié Tyler. Il a aussi participé au championnat de l’Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athelic Association (EOSSAA) à la fin d’octobre. Il s’est alors classé pour le championnat de l’Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA). Les Nationals de Rockland recevaient, le mercredi 8 novembre en après-midi, les Sénateurs junior d’Ottawa. Même si les Nats ont perdu lematch 4-0, c’était tout demême une journée amusante pour plusieurs écoles de la région venues les encourager. Blanchette were responsible for the other Nats goals. Both teams’ goaltenders had a strong game – 73s Cooper Lukenda earned the second star of the game, while Nats’ goalie Zach Roy took home the first star. Nats’ Michael Keating was named third for his assist. The Rockland Nats and the Pem- broke Lumber Kings were neck and neck throughout their game on Sunday, Novem- ber 12. The end of the allotted time saw the teams tied 4-4, with the Nats sealing the victory with an early goal in the first over- time period by Trevor Coykendall – who also scored the Nats’ first goal of the game. Mathieu Blanchette also had a strong game finishing with one goal and two assists. Louis Chabot and Antoine Leblanc also aided in the victory with their regulation goals. The Nats record now stands at (13-13-1- 1). The Nats take on the Navan Grads next on Friday, November 17 and the Carleton Place Canadians on Sunday, November 19 for an afternoon game at 3 p.m.
The RocklandNationals came out stronger last week, winning two out of their three games. The Rockland Nationals hosted an after- noon game on Wednesday, November 8, against the Ottawa Junior Senators. Although the Nats lost the game 4-0, it was still a fun day for many of the area schools who came to watch. Students fromOttawa’s Louis-Riel Public High School came to support their team, and other Rockland area schools were present, including elementary schools such as Carrefour Jeunesse and Saint-Félicité, amongst others. Jr. Senators’ goalie Connor Hicks recorded a shutout, stopping all 22 Nats’ shots. The Nats took home a 4-2 victory against the Kemptville 73s on Friday, November 10.
