EMJ 2015 Year in Review

2015 YEAR IN REVIEW A look at our people, work and efforts to change the construction industry.

A YEAR OF STRONG GROWTH

We are on a journey to change the construction industry. Ever since Edgar M. Jolley founded the company in 1968, we have worked to serve our clients with honesty, transparency and respect. Born from that desire to be a better partner with our clients, we formalized and implemented a process to do just that. We call it Concept-to-Completion, C2C®. Concept-to-Completion means that we think like owners to strategically and creatively generate value for our clients. But it’s more than a process; it’s a philosophy, strategy, culture and differentiator. We know that when we practice it, we provide greater value for our clients. Naturally, what started as an approach quickly became who we are. Because of our clients, we enjoyed strong growth in 2015. We invested in our employees through our continuing education program, Career-4-Life. We created an Advisory Board that helps guide our leadership. And, we boosted our recruiting efforts at universities across the country to promote our Co-Op Program. All of these efforts played large roles in our overall positive growth. We are pleased to share our Year in Review with you. From our leadership team, our Family of Companies and our servant leadership at work, you’ll find C2C guides everything that we do. As we consider all that we’ve accomplished, we are excited about the year ahead and our pursuit to generate value for our clients. Thank you for the part you played in our success.

In 2015, we measured our worth not only by the size and scope of our projects, but also by our relationships with clients.

In 2015, we worked to provide earlier and more comprehensive services through our project delivery approach. This year, we received federal registration of our C2C trademark. We took further strides to act as our clients’ partner and steward from project inception assisting in every facet of C2C design phase services and project planning. Early adopters of C2C have discovered the value in using our process. And those completing negotiated construction projects using the process are seeing it impact the top and bottom lines by greatly reducing risk.

One client started a significant construction process using the Design/Bid/Build approach. After experiencing problems inherent in that model, they engaged EMJ to use the C2C approach, which generated millions in measurable value. There are many examples of clients partnering with EMJ to create a collaborative approach to reduce risk and maximize profits. The resources available to us through our Family of Companies further enhance our ability to generate value for our clients and bring added peace of mind.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY In August, members of the CORE Safety team participated in the Chattanooga MudRun 5K benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga. This was CORE’s sixth year in a row to participate in the event. Accent Construction also participated in the MudRun, and Signal Energy had three teams run in the race. The military-style obstacle course race benefits low-income members of the community by raising money to build affordable housing. The Dallas office has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to “build a better Dallas” for the past three years. From donating goods and financial aid to building affordable homes for locals, the team has made giving a priority. TEAM BUILDING In March, RedStone Construction hosted a crawfish boil with their joint venture partner on River Spirit Casino, Manhattan Construction. The family-fun event reinforced the partnership between the two organizations while building strong relationships between employees and their colleagues. As Dallas’ numbers grew during 2015, the office hosted a company picnic as a team-building event. It was a fun afternoon of food, games, healthy competition and fellowship. COMMUNITY KITCHEN In December, the Chattanooga office sponsored the Chattanooga Community Kitchen’s Christmas Party for the fourth year in a row. The office raised money as well as food and supplies from local restaurants and stores to produce an outstanding party for Chattanooga’s homeless population. SALVATION ARMY Last year, members of Signal Energy rang bells at Hamilton Place Mall to help the Salvation Army raise money for nutritious food and warm clothes for low-income families in the Chattanooga area.

leadership – employees who are others-focused and lead by example. Finally, the construction industry is changing. We’ll redouble our efforts to provide clients with the best Construction Technology Services in the coming year. 2015 was a year of growth, and we expect 2016 will be a year of continued expansion for the company. Our team is equipped with the tools necessary to both communicate and deliver the C2C approach and transform the industry.

As we look forward to the coming year, we’ll continue to challenge ourselves to refine the C2C® philosophy and improve operational excellence. That means further developing effective internal and external training courses and sharing stories of lessons learned from our C2C experiences. This year, we will continue to invest in the development of our people by providing them with growth and development opportunities, and we will continue our efforts to attract, retain and motivate the best people in the industry.
