COMMUNITY PROFILE

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is consistently ranked among the nation’s best graduate and postgraduate studies and is further complemented in Irvine by programs at Irvine Valley College, Concordia University, and Brandman University. Irvine is also home to satellite campuses that include: University of La Verne; Pepperdine University; University of Southern California; Western State College of Law; and Chapman University Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus.

COLLEGE ENROLLMENT

Industry and Employment Irvine, located in the heart of Southern California, is a thriving epicenter for businesses. Irvine has access to a highly educated, skilled labor force and a fully operational transportation network. The City is served by three major freeway exchanges, a growing transportation hub, and John Wayne Airport. There are two major regional employment centers: the Irvine Business Complex (IBC), located adjacent to John Wayne Airport, and the Irvine Spectrum Center located in the southern part of the City. Together,

these centers comprise 7,600 acres, approximately 185,000 jobs, and more than 8,000 businesses. An additional 15,000 housing units are expected to be developed in the IBC. In addition, there are more than 10,000 housing units in the Irvine Spectrum Center, which has transformed the development into an ideal work-live environment. The Irvine Spectrum Center is also a major retail center with approximately 1.2 million square feet of more than 130 boutiques and specialty stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues, visited by more than 18 million consumers annually. Elsewhere, businesses and business parks abound, and key innovative locations supporting entrepreneurs include The Cove at UCI and The Vine. EMPLOYMENT
