This is Sparta! Greek day

GREECE On Tuesday 8th May, Year 3 had a visit from the Ancient Greek man. He told us lots of interesting facts and myths from the Ancient Greek period. We had lots of fun! We took part in different activities that included: building Archimedes’ square, a Greek quiz, playing a Greek board game. Some of us had the opportunity to become actors and star in myths, such as Apollo and Daphne. We all had the opportunity to take part in an Olympic event and throw the javelin. Thanks to Mrs. Bevan for the story. Last week, the children in Year 4 invited their parents and carers into school to take part in a Roman shield workshop. During the workshop, the children used various materials to create a shield similar to the ones that the Romans would have used. These shields were mostly symmetrical and used repeated patterns. The shield also had a metal boss in the middle to use as a guard for protection. The children could be as creative as they liked. Enthusiastically, some of the parents got really involved and ‘stuck in’ and some of them created works of art alongside the children. The shields are going to be used during our Roman Assembly - ‘ The Rotten Romans’. ROME

Thanks to Mrs. Abbercrombie for the story.
