4. Move & relocation management process. Working with colleagues in Capital Projects and Facilities Management, as required to lead on the relocation, including development of room layouts, of groups of staff and students. Where major moves are envisaged as a result of significant capital projects, move management will need close liaison with the relevant capital project management staff.

5. Devising novel solutions to space problems. Challenging Senior Staff, Heads of College and Heads of Departments and negotiating with them to resolve space allocation issues. Take responsibility for the resolution of space issues.

6. Develop corporate and estates space benchmarks and costs to provide appropriate University senior management reports and business plans on the estates strategy and space requirements. Develop the existing MICAD IPR system to enable it to become a comprehensive, accurate and usable tool for the management of space.

7. Work with and supervise consultants which will involve briefing architects, surveyors etc. engaged on estate development projects as required.

8. Develop analysis, measures and survey processes for teaching and administrative space utilisation in all locations in the University.

9. Liaise and develop with University timetablers and the learning spaces team in academic services - recommendations regarding efficient and evidenced use of academic rooms and buildings, and a student centred timetable.

10. Work with Estates teams on development of an integrated asset management database.

11. Work with Estates teams to ensure accurate space records, including audits of space use and functional suitability for estates management statistics and TRAC.

12. Develop and apply examples of space utilisation best practice within and outside the HE sector for both academic and administrative spaces.

13. Develop use of visualisation tools for managing space and the estate.

AND other such duties within the scope and spirit of the job title, purpose, and its grading.

Supervision Received

The post holder reports directly to Deputy Director of Estates and supports the Director of Estates in developing and managing the University’s strategic space planning function.

Supervision Given

1. The postholder will line manage the three Estates space planners. , including setting of objectives, monitoring performance and providing support and guidance as required, ensuring staff have the resources and development required to carry out their duties effectively. Develop the team to provide a comprehensive, outward facing, customer focussed service.

The postholder will support the overseeing and systems related to space management records and archive across the directorate with relevant personnel.
