ber, of the church offered to loan the necessary funds without interest. He wrote a check for the required amount —but when he handed it to the chair man of the Building Committee, he said simply, “Don’t bother about pay ing this back to me; it’s from the Lord; thank Him for it.” Results A ministry to service men has been going on for several months. Several spiritual families in the church have opened their homes to give real “fam ily” hospitality to Army, Navy, and Army Air Corps men. An entire wing of the new church building is devoted to the service men’s activities.* An active group of the church young peo ple assist with this program, as well as with a weekly radio broadcast which is definitely evangelistic in tone. The “Orange County School of the Bible” has been opened in the church building, the classes being sponsored jointly by Calvary Church and by the Evening School of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. Some of the courses are to offer regular credit at the Institute. Members of Calvary Church believe that the Lord Himself will fulfill the purposes for which He permitted—and caused—this new building to be erected. “This is the Lord’s doing; it is mar velous in our eyes.” Those who say that the days of powerful expository preaching are past should turn to this volume on Romans for correction of their view and for inspiration for their task. The pastor of the famed Park Street Church, Boston, “preached through” the Epistle to the Romans, to the great delight and profit of his large congregation, and his searching, an alytical addresses are embraced in this .book. “My own conviction,” he declares, “is that we must get back to expository preaching, beginning, as did Zwingli, the_Swiss reformer, in the first verse of the Book of Matthew and preaching right through the New Testament, so that our con gregations may be truly conversant with the doctrines, precepts, a n d practices of New Testament Christian ity.” The sermons are not a running commentary on the verses in Romans, but a logical and Well-outlined pre sentation of the truth of the Epistle. 256 pages.
