Phoenix Challenge Announces Winners

The 2020 Phoenix Challenge College Competition, while adapting to COVID-19 restrictions, was held on May 2, 2020.The participating teams and students dis- played their caliber of talent and poise as they aim for careers in the flexo and package printing industry. The Foundation has announced the winners of the college flexo competition.This year, due to the unique situation and truncated project parameters, teams were judged in four categories - Presentation,Research, Graphics, Concept and Execution. These scores were weighted and rolled up into an Overall Team Score for each team. Final results are as follows: First Place ; CalPoly —Caitlin Royston,Amber Huang, Ashley Chen, Julienne Chiang, Rita Yu, Morgan Wertz, Hannah Krieg and Trent Kammerer Second Place ; University of Wisconsin-Stout — Matthew Smith, Nikolas Thomas, Eli Dupslaff, Julia Ot- ten and Molly Perkins Third Place ; Central Piedmont Community College — Sabrina Baez,Maddie Purser, Julie Goslin,Tucker Nau- mann, Jonathan Hall,Matt Gabriel and John Diamond. The winning team, CalPoly, was featured during this year’s 2020 FTA Virtual Forum Online program, where they showcased their presentation and printed pack- aging during the session. The Phoenix Challenge Foundation has helped devel- op talent that now works with companies including: J. R. Cole Industries, Salem One, MacDermid Graphics Solutions, Harper Corporation, Quantum Ink Co.,Tesa Tape,Anderson &Vreeland and Mark Andy. TLMI Commences Annual Awards Competition TLMI has announced that the association’s Annual Awards Competition has kicked off, and all converter members are invited to submit entries for this year’s judging session. Each year, narrow web converters from around the globe submit hundreds of entries and winners are announced at the TLMI Annual Meeting. The TLMI Annual Awards Competition honors best- in-class package printing in a range of print process categories, including flexography, letterpress, offset, multi-process printing and digital. The non-pressure sensitive categories of unsupported roll labels and cut & stack are also represented.A panel of 15 judges, each representing a different TLMI suppli- er member or educational institution, unite to closely examine each year’s submissions to ultimately award multiple Best in Class Entries and one Best in Show.
