— Latinx families — first time on campus may be Wildcat Weekend — not yet comfortable; not yet trusting that their children will be cared for at CWU; need to have first connection must earlier. — Need to create that communication, connection, and foundation of trust.

— What about percentages of URMs? Does CWU care about X% of Latinx; X% of AA? Etc.?

BREAKOUT #3: PERSISTENCE, PROGRESSION, AND GRADUATION A discussion of topics/issues associated with achieving the SE Plan Goal #3: o Increase the first-time, full-time retention rate from 70% (2017 cohort) to 78% by Fall 2024 (2023 cohort). : o Increase first year persistence of new transfer students from 82% in fall 2017 (2016 cohort) to 85% in Fall 2024 (fall 2023 cohort). : o Decrease the average time-to-degree for first time full time from 17.6 to 16.0 terms. o Decrease the average time-to-degree for transfer students from 10.0 to 8.7 terms. Declaration of majors Sophomore year - more attention so they declare a major earlier Murky Middle (HS GPA) Support learning success strategies for students coming in with HS GPA between 2.8 and 3.3 PAL’s, individual tutoring as examples Greater variety of online/hybrid & alternate delivery strategies (specifically targeting transfer students) Offer free/reduced-cost instructional materials to help with cost of attendance Technological Remediation KissK, drop-in, PALS Advising One aspect of student path that follows/supports student throughout stay @ Central Grounds students -- Advocates for students CAMP is anexample of proactive advising - promote cohort programs for first year students Peer mentoring/peer tutoring to provide students with more structured support – more apt to accept from peers like them Academic coaching – more advanced structured support for high-risk students New Gen Ed Writing program Writing Fellows (Katie B) writing faculty who would work across disciplines with new gen ed writing courses in non-English disciplines Modality of delivery (team teaching?) ITAM online program – grow more online gen eg offerings for online programs
