Possibly offer AA/AS degree for those intending to transfer other WA publics Students need more support with Financial aid & Financial literacy. Many students struggle financially. Use Tuition waivers for persistence and graduation initiatives Implement a Conditional Admit status and required support ( this may reduce warning/probation) Live-in bridge program during summer with wraparound support and opportunities for networking and community building Provide additional Learning communities for 1st and 2nd year students Utilize block scheduling for first year students and utilize orientation for other initiatives and programming Need to shorten time to degree for transfer students who often run out of financial aid Enhanced advising for Running Start students – they often come in with many credits which may not be applicable to their preferred major
Help them choose courses strategically
AS degrees/pathways to STEM programs may be better than a DTA/AA since the courses needed for STEM are incuded
Embed advising in host CCs to provide a smooth transition from CC to Central
Improve relationship/partnerships between CCs and other advisors.
Reduce time spent in developmental courses. If possible reduce need for developmental courses altogether (e.g. ENG 101 with SI/Dev lab) Recognize the behaviors of current students (Gen Z) and create communication strategies that they will respond to Adulting 101 - non-academic programming to help students hone social skills, practice new behaviors necessary to succeed in adult world, etc.
Recognize students’ need to relieve stress/anxiety
Resilience -- Teach students to use Failureas a springboard to Success
Explore competency-based learning for developmental courses.
15 to Finish - Encourage 15 hours/term in order to finish college in 4 years
Faculty development to support strategies/initiatives for retention and student success
