3) Amendment to Section IV. Faculty Senate, General Education Committee This change describes the workload release for the new General Education Program Director and Pathway Coordinator positions. These new positions are necessary to support the coordination of the new general education as a program rather than a set of courses. Upcoming Code Changes

As a result of our conversations with the Board in October and President since then, the Faculty Senate is also working closely with the President to comprehensively review and revise the Faculty Code to clarify and strengthen the role of faculty in shared governance at Central. We have already made progress at revising language related to shared governance to better represent the AAUP (1966) statement, drafting new language related to faculty involvement in the budget process, and re-organizing the Code to more clearly connect content to the primary goal of defining how shared governance should work at Central. We plan to continue revisions this academic year and present a new version to the Board next year.

Update on Senate Initiatives:

Faculty Senate committees have been productive this academic year in moving forward important Senate initiatives which we believe enhance students’ academic experience at Central.

General Education Implementation

We remain focused on a successful implementation of the new General Education Program for Fall 2019. Thanks to support from the President and Provost, we have been able to restructure the administration of the General Education program to include a program director and pathway coordinators. This restructuring will allow the program to function as a cohesive and coordinated whole rather than as a set of courses. We thank the administration for supporting assistance from the Project Management Office for this implementation effort.
