comprehensive team working on this project and the continued support of the project by the administration.

The transition to the new program will provide students with new opportunities to engage in learning and in the community early in their college careers, make connections, and think critically. We believe the program will enhance both recruitment and retention efforts.

Academic Advising

The Faculty Senate has partnered with Student Success and the Provost to begin a campus conversation about revisions to the current academic advising model. The NWCCU reaffirmation of accreditation report made clear that Central needs to evaluate and make revisions to the academic advising model. We were not surprised by this recommendation. Over the past two years, a Provost- Faculty Senate Baccalaureate Task Force (BTF) has examined the many facets of the academic experience that make Central Washington distinct. One of the BTF workgroups focused on academic advising, and over the last two years conducted a comprehensive assessment of advising and put forward a set of recommendations. Per their recommendation, we have formed the Academic Advising Council, a group of faculty, staff, and administrators devoted to ensuring the University is providing consistent and high quality advising to students. The Council is currently working on three major tasks: 1) develop a mission and vision for advising at Central; 2) identify recommendations from the BTF reports that can be implemented this academic year to promote student retention; and 3) facilitate a campus-wide conversation to revise the advising model. The goal of this group is to produce recommendations for a revised academic advising model by the end of Spring quarter. The Faculty Senate is proud to be a partner in this initiative as faculty feel strongly that academic advising can improve on this campus to better serve students.

Budget Model Implementation

We are particularly interested in strategies to direct more money toward the mission of the university by decentralizing and directing resources from the College to the Department level. Our Faculty Senate Budget and Planning Committee has also been exploring ways to
