INTRODUCTION TO STRATEGIC ENROLLMENT PLANNING

Strategic enrollment planning connects the university’s mission, current state, and a changing environment to long-term enrollment and fiscal health. It’s a data-informed and on-going process that first identifies goals, develops strategies and implements tactics to achieve enrollment goals. Strategic enrollment planning includes regular assessment to determine if the strategies advance the goals, and makes changes when needed. State and national conditions change, and so a university and its strategic enrollment plan must remain nimble. While every major division and departmental unit within the university has its own planning process for goals and objectives, the Strategic Enrollment (SE) Plan is the common thread that runs through all of them. It is comprehensible to those not directly involved with the institution, specific enough to provide direction, and adaptable to change as necessary. Central Washington University’s SE Plan is both aspirational and realistic, informed by data and analyses. It moves us forward in fulfilling our commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarship; student centeredness; and engaged citizenship. Finally, the SE plan is the University’s blueprint to achieve the fifth core theme of the CWU strategic plan: resource development and stewardship. To keep our promise to the citizens of Washington, we must assure the continued operation of the University through financial stewardship.
