The Gospel to the Jew First All Bible students are familiar with the fact that it is the revealed will of God that the Gospel Bhould be given to the Jew first and then to the Gen tile. The two following quotations from the sacred page are conclusive on this point: "But ye shall r e c e i v e power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my wit nesses both in Jerusalem, and in Judaea and Samaria, and unto the ut termost part of the earth" (Acts 1 :8 ). "For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salva tion to every one that believeth: to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16). From the first quota tion we learn that in the beginning of the Church Age the Jews were to have the first chance of hearing the Gospel. From the second one we see that local ly the Gospel is to be given to them first. A casual glance at Acts of the Apostles will show that the Apostles obeyed implicitly the instructions of their Lord. In the first seven chapters Luke gives an account of the Jerusa lem Church; in the first part of chapter eight he gives us the record of the preaching of the Gospel in Sa maria; in the latter part of this eighth chapter and in the succeeding ones he gives an account of the spread of the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire. One is aware of the fact that this is a very brief and partial account of the great work that was done at that time; but it is sufficient to show that God’s
accompanied this, he stepped out on faith and we parted. When next we saw him, we realized the truth of Psalm 32:1, 2, for he was wonderfully changed. Following a time of testing, through which he stood true, thlngB began to clear up, a good position was secured, and he was greatly prospered. He seems to have a marked gift as an evangelist, doors of service are opening up, souls are being reached, and the blessedness of the Psalmist’s words are being increasingly realized: '‘ Restore unto me the joy of Thy sal vation; then will I teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners shall be con verted unto Thee.” , “ No more a wandering sheep, I love to be controlled, I love the tender Shepherd’s voice, I love the peaceful fold; No more a wayward child, I seek no more to roam, I love my Heavenly Father’s voice. MY THANKS TO GOD _ F the many myriads of things for which I would like to express my gratitude to God, I will mention two at the present time. First, I thank my God through our Lord Jesus Christ that he has counted me w o r t h y , through the blood o f ChrlBt His Son and my Saviour to have some share in His great work of giving the Gospel to Christ’s brethren according to the flesh. For several years the burden of giving this glorious Gospel to Israel, as far as it lay in my power, has been on my heart. Praise to the Lord that He has honored me with this burden for Israel. Several years before l was burdened with Jewish Evangelization, my wife was interested in giving the Gospel to the Chosen people and was praying that I might have the same deep concern and burden that, she had. Finally, the Lord laid it on my heart, doubtless, on account of her prayers together with those of others who were praying for Israel. We praise the Lord that we are of one mind and heart in this great work. Not only is the burden for the Jews on our hearts but the same burden is on the heart of our oldest son, David L. Jr. We are praying that, if it be the Lord’s will, the same burden may be on the hearts of all of the children with whom God has blessed our home. The second thing for which I wish to praise the Lord at this time is the fact that He, by His providence, has taken us out of the frozen North and brought us to “ Sunny California” to work in the Bible Institute of Los An geles. The Lord opened the door and we have entered this new field of labor,. To Him be all the glory and praise.
