The Key to Boosting Your Performance in the Gym

3 DEVICES TO IMPROVE YOUR BREATHING

When you’re running or lifting weights, oxygen is the fuel that keeps you moving. It rushes into your lungs and blood with every breath you take, and your heart pumps it out to your muscles, where it becomes vital energy. Ensuring your airway is open is the key to making this process run smoothly.

that wearing an Under Armour mouthguard boosted college athletes’ endurance, exercise intensity, and recovery.

PUTTING YOUR BEST NOSE FORWARD Since the 1996 Olympics, athletes all over the world have been using nasal dilators to improve their breathing. These devices make it easier to breathe through your nose, either by pulling open your nostrils from the outside (like the Breathe Right Nasal Strips you see on football players) or pushing them open from the inside (like Nas-Air that clips into the nose, a bit like a bull’s ring). These devices aren’t exactly fashion statements, but they work, particularly the internal ones! According to an Italian study published by Acta Biomedica, athletes using an internal dilator made by Nas-Air felt less fatigued after working out than athletes using Breathe Right strips or no device. Mouthguards and nasal dilators are just the tip of the breath-enhancing iceberg, but they’re the most accessible options for athletes just starting to dabble in the practice. To find out more about the products above, visit UnderArmour.com for mouthguards, BreatheRight.com for external nasal dilators, or RhinoMed.global for internal dilator options.

If you’re a regular in the gym, you probably know how important proper breathing is. You might even be employing breathing techniques already. But did you know you can also buy your way to better breathing? CREATING AN OXYGEN SUPERHIGHWAY Mouthguards aren’t just to protect our teeth during sports anymore. According to specialists, wearing a mouthguard can help open up your airway by moving your jaw forward and keeping your tongue stable. This lets more oxygen in and lets more carbon dioxide out! One study published in The Journal of the American Dental Association even found

Radio Frequency Microneedling THE LATEST IN FACE SKIN REJUVENATION

Here at Cool Renew Med Spa, we’re excited to announce the latest addition to our collection of beauty services and treatments: radiofrequency microneedling, or just microneedling for short. Its name makes this treatment sound like something out of science fiction, and with what the process accomplishes for your skin, it might as well be. Microneedling is the first ever anti-aging treatment for your face proven to both tighten your skin and reduce wrinkles at the same time. The treatment works like this: Over the course of at least three 20-minute sessions, we’ll use a tool called the “Genius” that creates a series of ultrafine needles that will puncture targeted areas on your face, about 3 millimeters deep. These needles will leave very small wounds. Then, when these wounds are healing, the process will cause your body’s collagen production to go way up. Collagen is a major component in keeping your skin strong and reducing wrinkles, and it will rush to heal the small punctures in your face while also revitalizing your skin. While the idea of injecting a bunch of tiny needles into your skin might not seem very appealing, we promise that you’ll love the results. The treatment does not leave any lasting holes in your skin, and even right

after the treatment, no one can see them. While you might experience some redness and minor irritation immediately following the procedure, this will not last very long. What will last is a face that is healthier and more youthful than ever before. We hope our patients who have been looking for the best way to achieve a more youthful complexion will give microneedling a try. In fact, throughout July, we’ll be offering 50% off the cost of this treatment as an introductory offer. We hope to see you soon!

HAIR DURING AND AFTER THE COVID-19 ERA What’s Changed, and Will the Changes Stick?

While getting your hair styled and cut is far from essential to your survival, millions of women and men across the country realized during the months of quarantine earlier this year just how important their hair care is for expressing themselves. This shouldn’t be a very surprising realization — after all, people have been using their hair to express their personalities, culture, and beliefs for millennia. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that such a drastic societal change led to equally drastic hair care choices for people all over the world. What this wild and weird season for hair care will mean for the future, however, only time will tell. If celebrities are the harbingers of styles and trends to come, then a brief glance at their social media accounts for their current hairstyles gives us a good idea of the kind of styles that people in society at large might begin to adopt as well.

In a word, their choices have been daring. Two noteworthy (though far from all-encompassing) trends emerged.

First, many celebs have been experimenting with many different colors of hair dye (though pink has been a clear favorite). Among those sporting newly dyed hairdos are actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, singer Ricky Martin, and singer Hayley Kiyoko. The other popular option, besides dying what you’ve got, seems to be shaving it all off. Model and actor Ruby Rose gave herself a buzz cut, and singer P!nk buzzed much of her hair off as well. P!nk also dyed what was left of her hair — you guessed it — pink. While these well-known celebrities might have normally been bound by their careers to meticulously control their image, the quarantine gave them a brief moment to express themselves more than usual. Will those stylistic choices last past the COVID-19 era? Since major events throughout history have proven to alter how people express themselves, it’s definitely possible.

The Secret to Delicious Grilled Veggies

Are You Using Too Much Shampoo and Conditioner?

3 HAIR CARE MYTHS PROVEN FALSE

Your hair is just as important as your skin, so it deserves the same level of proper care. Over the years, many misconceptions have arisen in the pursuit of finding the best method of caring for your locks, and some can do more harm than good to your hair. Below you’ll find three popular myths and the real actions you can take to improve your style.

wash your hair once it starts to feel oily or greasy. For some, this could mean shampooing daily, and for others, it could mean only once or twice a week.

MYTH: HAIR GETS USED TO SHAMPOO.

When you use the shampoo you’ve always used in the same conditions, you’ll have the same results. If you notice that your shampoo is starting to impact your hair differently, it means the condition of your hair has changed. Your hair can become drier in certain weather, and a recent haircut or color change can also cause changes in your hair. These changes may lead to different results from your regular shampoo. If you are no longer getting the desired effects from your shampoo, then try a different brand that’s tailored to your specific hair needs, such as moisturizing, curl control, or deep repair shampoo.

MYTH: SHAMPOOING EVERY DAY IS BAD FOR YOUR HAIR.

According to trichologist Anabel Kingsley, regularly washing your hair isn’t bad for it. Many people say that washing your hair every day will either damage it or cause it to fall out. But a good shampooing could be exactly what your hair needs, as doing so removes oil from your hair and prevents oily buildup, which can cause odor, dandruff, dullness, and limpness.

MYTH: CONDITIONING YOUR HAIR IN THE SUMMER MAKES IT OILIER.

Conditioning your hair moisturizes it, which adds volumes, reduces frizz, and increases shine. In the summer, your hair is exposed to the elements. High temperatures, pool chlorine, and saltwater can result in hair breakage and brittleness, but using the proper hair conditioner greatly reduces that damage. Hair masks and leave-in conditioners are also great products to use to protect your hair all summer long.

Your hair type and style, as well as your lifestyle, will play a role in how frequently you should wash your hair. A good rule of thumb to follow: Only
